Obituary: Glory temple Abbot Ly Van passes away

Templenews TV has just learned the sad news on the passing of the Abbot Ly Van of the Glory Buddhist Temple in Lowell.

Abbot Ly Van, 90, the Head Monk of the Glory Buddhist Temple in Lowell, passed away Saturday afternoon, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by his family and members of the Buddhist community.

He was born in Battambang, Cambodia, April 23, 1917, the son of the late Tiv Sour and the late Ho Sean, and received his education in Cambodia. Van Ly was a student of Buddhism for many years before becoming a Monk. A Buddhist Monk for over 25 years, he was the head of the Glory Buddhist Temple in Lowell. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Chha Nont Ly of Paris, France; a daughter, Chhivby Ho of Lowell; a niece, Hoc Noeu Ly of Tyngsboro; and many grandchildren.

The late abbot Ly Van will lie in state at the GLORY BUDDHIST TEMPLE, 24 Cambridge St., Lowell from Tuesday at 5 P.M. until Friday at 9 P.M. Family and friends will gather Saturday morning at GLORY BUDDHIST TEMPLE at 9 A.M. followed by a Funeral Service at Linwood Crematory Chapel in Haverhill at 10 A.M.

Cremation will follow. Arrangements by the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, Lowell, MA (978 or 866) 458-8768.

Templenews TV and staff will attend the planned funeral service and also extend the notice all the people that know the late Abbot Ly Van and his family to attend as well.
