MPs TO ACCOMPANY VILLAGERS TO RECOVER THEIR LAND

Today, 77 villagers from Kampong Chhnang province protested in front of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Justice against the confiscation of their lands by a private company.

They represent 108 families who have been living on 184 hectares of lands in Lor Peang and Boeng Kak villages, Ta Ches commune, Kampong Tralach district (about 70 km Northwest of Phnom Penh).

On 9 January 2008, the villagers' lands were grabbed by a company named KDC, owned by Mrs. Chea Kheng, who had the support of armed policemen and commune officials when chasing villagers from their lands. As acknowledged by the Court, KDC Company has used fake thumbprints to claim that villagers sold their lands to Mrs. Chea Kheng.

The villagers will continue their protest in Phnom Penh on 16 January.

On 17 January, they will return to their villages in Kampong Chhnang province and will be accompanied by SRP Members of Parliament including Sam Rainsy. The convoy of villagers and MPs will leave the SRP Headquarters at 8:00 am and will reach its destination at around 9:00 am.

Journalists, diplomats, human rights activists and all interested persons are invited to join the convoy and witness whether the villagers will be able to recover their lands.

We should enforce this old lady Chea Kheng to jail to learn her lesson for cheating other people.
