The Cambodian government "has not done enough as a parent," leaving the young and educated without work while government officials linger in their positions or pass them on to their children, a leading political activist said Monday.

Meanwhile, issues like immigration, the border, injustice and corruption go ignored, said Ken Sara, president of the Student Movement for Democracy.

All of this should lead Cambodian youth toward considering politics, he said.

But before joining a political party, he warned, think twice.

"If your decision is wrong, it will affect the future of you and the country," he said, as a guest on "Hello VOA."

Cambodia's national elections are six months away, he said, and many issues face the government.

Students leave school and find no jobs, or they only find jobs as motorcycle taxi drivers or are forced to return home to their farms, he said, while the price of food, goods and fuel continue to rise.

There are many ways to become involved in politics, he said. And when you do, you help restore your own country.

The Government is not our Parents.
They are the servants of People .
They get pay & having a Good lifing style from Khmer's sweat & Blood.
From Xihanuk to Hun Xen who always ask Khmer-People to thank for their ruling, sucking, robbing ect...
from Cambodia & Its People.
What do we owe them ?
The both,Sath Yo-Yokear run Cambodia as their families business.
How much do the Nation-wealths leave for Khmer-People ?
Nothing ! Nothing !

Dear Ken Sara and all Students.

Please stop using the word "Parents".It must not be PATERNALISM any more. Your boss is just your boss, and the PM is just the PM, not the "Father" of the people.

You must work to empower Cambodian youth, not to be "children" of the leader.

Please learn more, to be a future good leader.

I was disppointed with what Ken Sara said to VOA. He used the word "Parents" to call Cambodian leaders..

I understand Ken Sara was honest when he said this. but he must learn more and change this "Culture of Paternalism".

We are on the 21st Century. Our leaders are not our parents, but are SERVANT of the people. They are respected when they fullfil well their duties, and replaced by people when they are bad or incompetent.

Ken Sara, Please Involve all youths to make change: Stop the 'culture of paternalism'. Start a Culture of Equality, Respect of human right, Freedom of Expression, Real Denmocracy...
