On Monday, prime minister Hun Sen said that the Constitution amendment is equal to handing the entire power on a cake platter to Hun Sen to uphold for the CPP. Discussing about the problems of political deadlock in the past, Hun Sen said: “Back then, when they want to give us a hard time, they refuse to come to the National Assembly, we couldn’t do anything, no law can be approved, and the National Assembly meeting couldn’t even be held. (When) we want to approve a law in emergency, they don’t come to the National Assembly. We had only 73 MPs and the quorum required the presence of 87 MPs. Right now, we don’t need all that anymore, they come or not, it’s their problem, we only need 62 MPs and that would be sufficient/ We have 73 (seats at the National Assembly), if you want boycott, you can sleep at home.” Hun Sen added: “This is not a Hun Sen’s trick, but because they taught Hun Sen, then Hun Sen will find a mean to free himself from being a hostage of political parties who lost the election.” Eng Chhay Eang, SRP Secretary-general, said that the 50%+1 formula was not approved for any party to hold on to power, but that it was adopted to uphold the democratic goal in order to end political deadlock.

Hun Sen is so sure that he will get more than 62 seats..but let see the result of election is not yet coming.

However, decreasing seats of CPP is a good sign to develop democracy in Cambodia through CPP can create government, but it is just minor voiced government.

Though Hun Sen can get 65 to form government, but it is still a minor government caucus.

Well, because Sam Rainsy will not make it to the election, all of his votes will be divided between the HRP and the CPP. Accordingly, if you do the math, you'll find the CPP will have no problem getting most of the seats.

50% + 1 is good in all the other democracies why should it be any different in Cambodia?
