Annotated maps of Preah Vihear provided by Mr. Bora Touch, Esq.

(...), I wish to clarify a bit more on the Preah Vihear temple maps I posted earlier, esp. for those who do not read Thai (the handwriting on the two maps). There are 4 maps I re-attach here. The writings in blue are my additions to help explain different boundary lines and disputed area (in green) claimed by Thailand.:

Map I marked "A" is a official Thai map of 1:10,000 scale;

Map I marked "B" is French-Siamese Commission map made in 1907 (scale 1:200,000) which has handwritings in Thai. (Click on the map to zoom in)

Map marked "3" is my extract from the Aide Memoire of the Royal Government 1962 (scale 1:6,000); (Click on the map to zoom in)

Map marked "4" is the French-Siamese Commission 1907 (scale: 1:200,000), my extract from the International Court of Justice Report 1962. (Click on the map to zoom in)

Map "A" and "B" are Thai internal working documents.

As you will see, the Thai understanding of where the boundary line lies is different totally from the one drawn by the French-Siamese Commission in 1907 and confirmed by the International Court of Justice in 1962. Clearly, the Thai claim in 1962 and now bases on no legal justification. The Thai and Khmer public must know this.

As far as the current Thai claim and Thailand's official Statement of 25 March 2008 are concerned, the statement made by H.E. Var Kim Hong of the Royal Government of Cambodia in 2005, that Thailand recognises the boundary line drawn by the French-Siamese Commission 1904, 1907, may have been too optimistic, if not misleading.

Regards, Bora Touch

The French is wrong. They used guns and canons to forced the Khmer-Thai to ceded their land to them. All treaties with the French must be invalidated. This should be a Khmer's affair only, no one else.

1:20,

If it should be a Khmer affair only, Thailand should cede most of her country back to its rightful owner, Cambodia.

HUN SEN government should take this map to present at the UN. If they don't have them they should ask Sihanouk and this (guy) Lok Pou Bora Touch for these map to clarify the stupid Thai that they are a real theft. If the French is wrong let the French go to the UN and clear these messes out. Khmer Krom and Khmer provinces in Thailand shall return back to Cambodia so this thing won't happen again. Jayo! Khmer and only Khmer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like these map. Please pass this map to HUN SEN and let his cabinets present them to the UN.

Khmer people must settle the disputed area among Khmer people. We must not allowed the French to dictate anything here. We must burnt every treaty they created.

Can somebody please explain a little better with this map? It looks like the line which established in 1907 by French-Siamese commission was a little further from Preah Vihear, meaning our Cambodian's land is extending a little further out into Thailand or we are a hving more land and better access to PV than the line claimed by Thailand in 1962. The one claimed by Thailand is much much closer to Preah Vihear and created such difficulty for us to get thru or do anything. Which one is our rightful line? Shouldn't it be the one that was drawing by French in 1907?

oh my god, this map clearly showed the court's ruling of 1962 the green shaded areas belonged to cambodia along and thailand was disputing it then and they now still use that same dispute against cambodia's sovereignty. this old map used by the court then clearly showed the thai thieves intention. the so-called 4.6 km2 area of dispute are actually belonged to cambodia. it is cambodia that will be losing the land, not the other way around. what a thieve thailand really is. the map shows the real picture. even the US army map showed that this slice of "disputed" area are actually belongs to cambodia all along. i think cambodia should not yield to the thai demand and take them back to court once and for all again to show the entire world thailand's cruel intention on cambodia's sovereignty. oh my god, i thought this so-called disputed area of 4.6 km2 is something new. in reality it is not, it the same area being dispute then in the 1950s which the world court ruled in favor of cambodia, and now thailand still go against the court's ruling. i say take them back to court for the very last time about this!

thanks for showing and posting the 1962 court ruling maps for all to see. and i can see the real intention of the thieves, thai. the shaded green area was ruled in favor of cambodia since 1962 when cambodia took thailand to court and now they still say that they did not agree with the court's ruling. what the heck! this map shows clearly the shaded green area belongs to cambodia. of course, it was disputed before the 1962 ruling, but since 1962, that area was ruled for cambodia, not thailand and for thailand to reclaim it saying they did not agree with the court is illegal and very unlawful, to say the least! cambodia, please do not yield to thailand on this so-called disputed area; take thailand to court one more time for the final time if they still making such illegal demand against the sovereignty of cambodia.

the green shaded area belongs to cambodia according to the 1907 treaty and the hague ruling in 1962 confirmed that and was permanent. so, why the ignorant thai thugs from the people alliance for democracy or whatever still say they disagreed with the court's ruling. i wonder what the new map looks like? the new map is only to list the temple, not necessarily mean cambodia is yielding to thai demand. apparently, the thai still think they can disagree with the court ruling. it is so illegal for them to continue t dispute even after 46 or more years already. go to hell thai thieves!

UNESCO should examine the decision of ICJ of 1962 carefully...LEGALLY, Preah Vihear and the surrounding area should be listed as a world heritage site. Preah Vihear is within Cambodia and belongs to Cambodia only. Samdech Hun Sen will be recorded in history after His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk as the one who uphold the ICJ Preah Vihear verdict of 1962!!

When we lost ourself to war and The KR's Era, Thailand took this opportunity to use our land freely without us knowing it. They are so used to the area that now they are thinking that it's theirs. Yeah right!!! Thai was known to be very ambitious and takes everything they can and if you're weak, its theirs forever and it's just tough for everyone else, but not all Thai are the same. Trust the Lord, keep fighting and praying.
A good powerful Thai will turn it around or else they will go to hell and never come back. Those good Thai like us would not want that. No way!

Thanks lok bora for sharing important documents.

I doubt why the khmer government doen not use the map drown by the french-siamese commission in 1907 and then recognised by the ICJ.

I think the Cambodia's government should not make compromise with Thai, by making a request to register the temple alone to UNESCO. I mean should not rush to do it. We can lost our land because we recognised the overlaping zon that it is not in the old map.

The important thing is rush to build the good street to reach the temple from Cambodia's territory.

Why the government has to compromise with Thai? What stay behind this?
