The Sokha Hotel (owned by Sok Kong, one of Hun Sen’s cronies) signed an agreement with the Arnold Palmer Company to build a 36-hole golf course at the base of Bokor Mountain, as part of the Bokor Mountain recreational area development. The area was abandoned in the past. According to the information provided by Sokha Hotel on Tuesday, in its first step, an 18-hole golf course will be built on an area extending 45-hectare, and it will be completed in 2010, after which a second construction phase will start. The golf course is part of $1 billion, 15-year plan by the Sokha Hotel to renovate the hotel and casino originally built during the colonial period, and was later abandoned. The plan also includes the building of motels, entertainment park, and modern market, the Sokha Hoteal information indicated also.

In the matter of fact, to develop the Bokor into recreational park and resort is better than its current abandoned status.

The development will create more jobs for local people alike and others semi skilled and professional alike. The development will also indirectly boosting local economy from other businesses related when tourists flock the area.

One concern shall be cloesely study is the environmental impact should the top of Bokor expand beyond its current status, and the surrounding national park if an eco-tourist is included. However, this impact would be minimal should a sustainable development and protection plans are in place.

Agreed, and we need a lot more people like Sok Kong to build a lot more.

Vote #4 for continue development.

Vote #9 for becoming Zimbabwean's slave.

" The development will create more jobs for local people alike and others semi skilled and professional alike."

An example from a chinese company which is digging and put cable in the ground in Phnom Penh, I saw most of ordinary workers are Chinese. Can Cambodian workers do that? Why don't they employ Cambodian workers?

Dear A corner;
What you mentioned is just one of the scenario which doesn't represent the whole story.

If you are looking at other jobs such as construction, agrment factory, Sokha beach Hotel, Sokha Siem Reap then you would really see who are mainly doing the job.

It is unwise for any investment company t bring their own labour to the country such as Cambodia where is labour is far much cheaper than the average wage they can get work done with local labors.

Ah Khmer-Yuon (2:58) is lying. No Chinese will come all the way down from China just dig holes to lay down cable. If they come to Cambodia, it would have to be serious business.

Brother @3.46, I think you are not Khmer and also not living in PP or Cambodia also. How much you know about Cambodia?

Another an example: like the construction field in Prek Tameak bridge in Kandal province. Do Khmer people can drive a truck to carry rock or land or materials for comstruction? I see all the driver there are Chinese.

If you have time, I advice you to visit that site one time.

Other thing, Have you ever watch TVK that broadcast about the cable digging work ?

Dear brother @3.37
Actually that is true that it is not represent the whole senario of the work situation.

I ask you one question. Do you think Chinese garments owner can not find Khmer chef to cook for garment workers? or don't they truth on Khmer? If you have time, go to Doeum Kor market in the morning to see Chinese man come to buy cheap vegetable for cooking.

A few year ago, in garment factory have you ever heard about Thai workers agued with Khmer workers?

How many Vietnamese Generals who serve high ranking officals in Cambodian Army?

This Vietcong middleman is doing all that he can to steal what is left of Cambodia after the Vietcong invasion of 1979!

How is it possible that he can accumulate 1 billion dollar without stealing from a blind Cambodian leader? Ahhahhahahha

I will be the first to tell you that it is easy to do business with a blind person because the blind will always agree to everything because he afraid might to get hurt and won't know what might hit him! Just agree and you won’t get hurt!

By the way, the concept of development on Boko Mountain was started by King Sihanouk in 1960! And King Sihanouk even used Boko Mountain to mount his anti-aircraft gun to shoot down the South Vietnamese plane for violating Cambodian territory!

You idiot (10:16), the Sokha Hotel did not make money from stealing from Khmer people, only Ah Khmer-Yuon does that. They make all of their profits from accommodating millions tourists that visiting here over the decades, and the golf course is just their mean to further expands that industry for Cambodia.

Here's one of the hotel:

Be patient, 1:55, Sok Kong maybe wealthy, but he's not Bill Gate. It cost a lot to build a tourist attraction.

someone got to have the vision for cambodia. if you can love and have love for cambodia, then you are more than welcome to develop cambodia for all to enjoy. thus created more jobs, etc... sometimes, one has to look at it from an economics standpoint. it helps for people to be diversed, just like in the stock market, you've gotten to diversify your portfolio in order to minimize the unforeseeable risks or riske. c'est bon! god bless cambodia

It is very funny to see how some stupid Cambodian people in here always equate the new development such building a new golf course, a new hotel, or even a new skyscraper with more job creation! And the fact is no!

There is a recent article on KI-Media that stated the development is not for the poor but for the rich and the millionaire businessmen!

Beside how can these dirt poor Cambodian people have a decent job without a proper training! It sounds like dirt poor Cambodian people can get the fucken job right off the street without proper training every fucken time there are some developments going on!

Now who is going to pay for the job training? Not AH HUN SEN government of course because he always claimed that his government doesn’t have the damn money!

Anonymous said...

Fuck you, 8:21, how many rich people do you ever seen maintaining what they build? No tourist ever seen Sok Kong opened door for them to enter the hotel, or helped them move their baggages to their suite... It's all Khmer people who does all that.

To 11:01AM

Tell me what Cambodian workers are you talking about? There are million and million of illegal Vietcong lived in Cambodia and do you think that AH SOK KONG Vietcong middleman is stupid enough not to hire his kind to do the low paying seasonal job? Can you show the statistic to how many dirt poor Cambodian workers got hire by AH SOK KONG development?

By the way I had seen AH SOK KONG Sokha hotel in Sihanoukville! The whole section of the beach where his so called fucken hotel located is cut off from public access! It is one thing to own a fucken hotel but to own the beach which denies the access of Cambodian people to enjoy nature is another thing!

AH SOK KONG doesn't need to play the Vietcong sovereignty game in Cambodia! AH SOK KONG needs to know his place within Cambodian society if he wants to do great thing for Cambodia because Cambodian people are not blind to notice what he is doing in Cambodia!

Anonymous said...

Hey, there were millions of tourists stayed at the Sokha hotel over the last couple decades or so, and there were no complaint about excessive Yuon working in there. What more statistic do you want?

As for the beach, as long you don't mess up the area and causing damage to the business, I don't see why you can't used it.
