Prince Norodom Ranariddh is expecting to receive retirement pay from the National Assembly, which can amount to up to $1,100 per month, along with another 50 retired lawmakers.

"Retired lawmakers receive between US$800 and $1,100 a month, depending on their rank within the National Assembly," said Cheam Yeap, a CPP lawmaker. Norodom Ranariddh resigned as National Assembly president in 2006.

come on, the prince is now so old. Please give him the retirement pay, so that he can save enough for his funeral when the time comes. Or maybe, he use the money for new mistresses?

No wonder. The law (Law on Statue of People's Representatives) was passed long ago. It favours more of the CPP members so that they are brought up when getting old.

Poor Cambodian tax payers.

They get this much of money. Does their pay subject to income tax. I've been paying income tax for more than 10 years - what security I would get when I get old?

Don't be silly, 5:45. Civil servants salary came from the tax, so why put it back. Only a retard will do that.

i guess, corruption knows no boundary. who's to say and who's to blame just other? the only different is probably just the degree of it. why not call it corruption without boundary, huh!!!

is this some form of social security retirement benefit of cambodia? i didn't know cambodia has a pension system or a social security system where retired people can get retirement payment! it's great that cambodia has this system in place!

I don't know Socheata.. What is she's doing?
She's taking the conclusion to show us.
This is a member of parliament.MP. law.

This law of the MP's retirement has been signed in 2006.
The sum of monies that each of ex. MP will receive will depend on the number of year that they are MP. In sum, if you are MP only 4 years, you will receive less than another MP whom has served 10 years, etc.

It's just normal that they receive retirement's monies. In usa, canada, senators and retire member of parliament received retirement monies.

In Sum, even Sam Rainsy will receive monies !!!
It's not, corruption !

Khmer Canadian
p.s.: the amount 800 to 1100 is not really exact. Some MP who had served only 3 years, will receive less than 300 US a month.

that makes sense. retirement entitlement is not corrupt money. some people seem to misunderstood this. retirement money is an entitlement payment for their service to the country of cambodia. yes, every country on the planet have retirement system to pay their elderly statesmen, etc...

i think everyone who had worked for the gov't of cambodia, even before the KR era, if they survived the KR atrocity and can show either by colleagues, or by friends and family or school records, etc... should be entitled to gov't retirement system once they reached a certain age requirement. i think cambodian gov't should look into reforming this system so everyone can get some form of retirement money for their gov't work they did, even before the khmer rouge period, especially those formers gov't workers like former teachers, doctors, etc... that happened to survive the KR killings fields. thank you and god bless cambodia.
