Phnom Penh – Experts have completed their investigation on the spot where the helicopter crashed and exploded into pieces, and only a small piece of the tail remains that allows the recognition of the helicopter. Nevertheless, on 11 November, it is still impossible to find any clarification on the cause of the helicopter crash that led to the death of General Hok Lundy, General Sok Saem, as well as two other pilots: Hon Ratha and Tep Setha. The bad weather, compounded by heavy rain in the province of Svay Rieng could be the cause of the crash.
A report indicated that on 11 November, between 8AM and 11AM, representatives of the helicopter company and technical experts searched for clues on the spot of the crash located in Prey Keav village, Kampong Chak commune, Rumduol district, but no one made any declarations about their findings. According to villagers, in the morning of 11 November, representatives of the helicopter company, including some foreigners and aviation experts, came to look for clues that could explain the cause of the crash. However, the results of their research are not known, as the villagers were only allowed to look from a distance because the police prevent them from getting close to it, all that the villagers saw was these experts taking notes at each debris piece of the helicopter. Nobody knows what they took out of there, but at 11AM, they all climbed back on a helicopter owned by the Sokha Company to return back to Phnom Penh.
Police and military police posted at the spot of the crash indicated that they do not have any information besides guarding the fence so that no one can get close to the helicopter debris area. The police officers were ordered to maintain a tight security. At about 10AM on that same day, a foreign representative of the company and his translator went to talk to the land owner Ouk Heng, a 66-year-woman living Prey Keav village, and he asked her about the size of her plot and her identity.
In his letter to Chumteav Pen Pheakdey, Hok Lundy’s wife, Hun Sen wrote: “Me and my wife, as well as my family are horrified and very saddened after learning that H.E. General Hok Lundy, the national police commissioner, dies in the evening of 09 November 2008, at the age of 51-year-old from the helicopter accident in Svay Rieng.”

Initially, the so-called Cambodian aviation experts gave us the preliminary report predicated on clueless details on the incident, instead, stated that the crash was caused by the weather. Paradoxically, however,a day later, the experts morphed their previous statement into mechanical (as a complete investigation), and yet-- but strangely -- today, these kids (aviation experts)have unbashedly arrived at an unequivocal conclusion that the crash, in fact, caused by the weather.
What do I think about this swift incident investigation? Quite frankly, I'm unequvocally baffled and iffy about their unequivocal conclusion of the incident.
Here in the U.S., such tragic incident, for instance, it would take weeks or months or even years to probe in an efforet to ascertain the actual cause of the crash (provided with the black boxes: one box records the voice of the pilots in the last 30 minutes of the event, while the other box records all the instruments prior and during the crash)by the aviation experts (NTSB, or National Transportation Safety Board).
