Opposition To Visit Former King in Beijing

By Sok Khemara, VOA Khmer
Original report from Phnom Penh
24 November 2008

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy is expected to travel to Beijing this week to meet former king Norodom Sihanouk.

Royal Palace officials said Sihanouk, who is in Beijing for medical care, will fix a meeting for Tuesday, having already met Prime Minister Hun Sen several weeks ago.

No detailed information on the meeting was available, and a Royal Palace official declined comment.

Sam Rainsy told VOA Khmer his audience with the former monarch, who abdicated in 2004, was private.

Opposition officials said recent political and economic developments could be on the agenda.

The Sam Rainsy Party won 26 of 123 National Assembly seats in July's elections, which the party labeled fraudulent, a claim Hun Sen's ruling Cambodian People's Party, which won 90 seats, denies.

I am currently living in Phnom Penh and voted for you but unfortunately you didn't win due to intimidataion, vote fraud and names has been erased. But your outcome is still looking good. One got to remember Angkor Wat Temple can't be built in a day.

You will win in the future. Cause the newer and younger generation will demand for a change. Look at USA, it happened. Obama is the first Black American in history.

I thank you for your patriotism and benefit you have for our country.

I wish you the best now and the future.

SRP will win in the short future!!!
We are for you!!!!

but remember in order to win, you must unify all your small parties because without this consolidation, you have no chance against the bigger and more popular party. and a hint, get your own house in order and stop being power-hungry and keep pressing for national reconciliation and keep voicing for the national interest at heart, not your own! and most importantly, know when to stop and when is the right time ( i.e, during election time only, not after you lost the election). thank you! good luck and god bless cambodia.

Let the former king talk to the Chinese to see if he can get Ah Sen's head decapitated and replace a new leader.

Good luck on your trip!

Thank you for leadership, role model, for you hardwork and consistency.

May God continue to bless you and everyone around you.

All khmer, lets support who truely supports the country and not the traitor.

HUN SEN should put former candidate aside and work together to better Cambodia.

Look at USA they put political rivals aside and work toward economic stability.

I bet alot of Cambodian citizen will support that motives.

Hello Mr. Sam Rainsy,

When those people defected from your party and they made commend that they left the party because they felt that it steers toward more nepotism. As the party supporter, I was angry at them. But, as today I have paid more attention to how your party is functioning, for somewhat I feel the same way. Especially the appointment of Mrs. Keov Souvannarath as the party General Secretary. Should the party find new face especially the younger generation to fill this job. I believe by doing so, your party will gain more trust from the general population. It shows that your party will offer them the real democracy in the future. So, what your party needs is Change.. Change..Change. You can't just simply appointing here and there like a circus has only a few performers and few clowns. Open it up for surviving in the future.

Even if all the smaller party unify. Unity isn't bigger then hanoi entrapement.

khmer people need to raise voice and opposition about hanoi oppression and colonization over cambodia!

Dear KI readers: Cambodia is far beyond the change like USA and other democratic countries. HUN's party losses many votes but managed to cheat the votes and win the election many times in the past. Why can’t we see this? I think HUN will rule the country until the day he dies. Then the HUN's family will rise to rule just like to Communist North Korea. Soon he will rule HELLLLLL, too.

A cowboy of USA.

Don't forget to go to Prey Sor after you comeback from Beijing.

Mr. (SRP) Party Supporter (4:13 AM),

Are you sure those people who have defected from SRP because they had felt that it steered towards more nepotism?
Is that the real reason?
Is there less nepotism in other parties?
How about the public offices offered by their new party?
Since party politics was born in Cambodia in 1940s, almost all defectors have been lurred by public offices.

No can do! Nepotism has long existed in human society. But in coutry like Cambodia, nepotism surpasses social fairness. It's very practical. In western countries, there will be a major argument against nepotism.

i know, everyone should play by the rule and qualification, not by nepotism, favoritism, fraternization, etc...; this is where the problem exist in the first place, and i'm sure no one party is immune to these sins in politics. this kind of things existed as long as prostitution became a professional. the key to control it is by educating about the law, and how doing it can effect the country in a bad way. it will take the will of power on a personal level to lessen or limit this kind of unwanted. also, reforms and more reforms is good as well. it will be hard work, but not impossible. it will take a strong leadership as well to do it. god bless cambodia.

In Cambodia, all the officials from top to buttom of ruling party know their laws thoroughly; they don't want to be educated about laws; instead, they want laws to be educated about them.

no one in his/her right mind can claim to know everything without regards to how others insightful as well. because that would be called boasting, and boasting is never a good thing for anyone, professional or not. what i don't get is why some cambodian leaders think like this, like they know everything only by themselves as if they were bornt with it or something! think about it, isn't that where the root of most problems exist in cambodia because of their type of thinking. and i don't mean to insult anyone in cambodia; i just wish some leadership would change for the better, that's all! in english, we call it flaw thinking - meaning, it may sound like it make sense, but it's just not. for example, 8:44am stated above: "they want laws to be educated about them." now, it phrase is flaw because they are insinuating abstract concept or idea like a person or human being that can be taught or something. sorry, abstract concept or idea is just that, abstract; therefore, it can't be taught, hello, make up!!!

From I inference, he is going there to consult the leverage person about what policy to be set in the next five years.

Sihanouk still has his popular influece in Cambodian politic and future. To ignore him is to missjudge current situation.

It is understood that due to more dialogues within Cambodian politic, there is more undertading between those politicians. And that is a good sign whereby there will be less serious blaims occur.

Anonymous said...

i think it is a good idea to consult with each other. yes, there are such thing as seniority and experienced and wiser ones, etc... that's an excellent idea. god bless.

Perhaps my comment is the last one. Though I am one of his supporters - he himself should never create any ally with Mates Pluok (Ranarit - I know that spell his name right won't make any differences).

Sam Rainsy will visit the animal in China?

Ah Scam Rainxy is trying to buy his way out of Prey Sor, but that is not going work.

that's funny..
this asshole Sam Rainsy ...
.I support SRP members, not Sam Rainsy.

Sam Rainsy has helped CPP to demolish Funcinpec,
an ex party of Sihanouk, now he goes to
see Sihanouk. really ironic !!!

SRP's members wake UP. You are good!
Sam Rainsy is not good as you are.
Sam Rainsy and his family in law are with Chea Sim.
So if you like Chea Sim, then you should continue to
support Sam Rainsy..

Don't you see the difference between now and before october 2006. After Nhiek .one freak hand. Bun chhay take the administration of Funcinpec, there's so many land grabbing and intimidation. Is it a good move of Sam Rainsy? Khmers can't speak freely now...
Sam Rainsy contribute for this...!!!
And the last action, Kith Meng has just bought him...

Khmers need a new real Leader.
Not this asshole Sam Rainsy !!!

good luck...
