Critics say Abhisit has received help from the military and the anti-Thaksin PAD protest group [AFP]

Abhisit Vejjajiva, the leader of Thailand's Democrat party, has been chosen by parliament to become the country's new prime minister.

The 44-year-old career politician was born in Britain to medical professor parents.

Educated at Eton College and Oxford University, he graduated with first class honours in politics, philosophy and economics.

Though popular with the foreign business community, Abhisit has found little support with rural northeastern Thais who make up the country's majority and are the backbone of support for Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister ousted in a 2006 coup who has remained the focus of anti-government protests since.

In nearly three years as opposition leader, Abhisit's excursions outside Bangkok or the Democrat heartlands of the south were rare and almost always met with hostility, sometimes even in the form of flying rotten vegetables.

Criticism

Abhisit says he wants clean government and he denounced the 2006 coup against Thaksin, but critics say he is an opportunist who has received help from the military and the anti-Thaksin People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

He failed to condemn the PAD, even when the demonstrators occupied Bangkok's two airports late last month, and it was his party's decision to boycott a snap election in 2006 that precipitated the constitutional crisis that eventually led to the coup against Thaksin.

His policies borrow heavily from Thaksin, in particular the commitment to continue the universal public healthcare scheme and cheap rural loans introduced during Thaksin's five years in office.

Abhisit has also vowed to push for more overseas free trade deals but at the same time reverse Thaksin's partial privatisation of some state firms.

Abhishit, if you have ill-will toward the people of Cambodia, don't you dare set foot on Khmer soil!

Preah Vihear was built by a Khmer king for the people of Cambodia. The world court ruled that already in favor of Cambodia back in 1962. Don't use our temple for your political gains in Thailand, bastard!

Srok khmer say........

Who give the fuck about this guy? Khmers only wonder why Hun Sen does not lodge the complaint about the border standoff to the UN or let the ICJ rule.

Or why Hun Sen does not want the third party to involve like the mediation offered by Indonesia and Malaysia before?

And here is my analyze:
1) the phase of indochinazation or vietnamization is significant than ever. YOUN illegal immigrants can flow into Cambodia freely and easily. The current gov.t (or better called the puppet gov.t) provide all necessary access and means for YOUN to settle in Cambodia and like other previous analysises, the number of YOUN will outnumber the khmer people in the near future, say in 10-15 years or the number will be enough to revolt and with protection from the viet gov.t (Look at South Ossetia in Georgia). And this time more cruel than ever before (in more and more cool manner of YOUN) the YOUN plans to annex and swallow the whole Cambodia and claim the extinction of Khmers.

Back to the border dispute with Thailand, the YOUN does not lose an inch of land or interest. The YOUN gov.t even provoke the fighting between the two countries so that the YOUN can deploy large number of troops in Cambodia the same to what it did when it claimed to come into Cambodia to rescue Khmers from Pol Pot Regime. And you can calculate the number of YOUN immigrants, including more and more illegal immigrants, so until now the number of YOUNs is large already. And no wonder why the current Khmer gov.t cannot seek assistance from the third party, say UN or Indonesia or Malaysia AND WHY THE GOV.T DOES NOT SEEK THE ASSISTANCE FROM THE RULE OF LAW LIKE ICJ, PARIS PEACE ACCORD AND ETC.

In conclusion, the mediator from third party like UN or assistance from the rule of law like ICJ or Paris accord will not be the good solution for YOUN gov.t at all since the two-best above solutions will provoke all internationally-recognized treaties that the YOUN will lose its interests say land encroachment so far and ESPECIALLY TO REVEAL ITS VIETNAMIZATION PLAN WHICH IS AT THE LAST PHASE ALREADY.

Now khmers the ball is at your feet and you must play it carefully this time. You can't afford to make anymore mistakes. And to demand the anti-corruption law and implementing the immigration law efficiently, cleaning the house of the gov.t and most importantly THE INTEREST OF THE NATION ON TOP OR ELSE YOU WILL CALL YOURSELF ALIEN LIVING ON YOUR OWN MOTHER SOIL.

We know that Thais are idiots, only idiots claim to be intelligent and superior over others...when it comes to rule of international law...they lose big time! The case in 1962 is an example. We hope to take them to court once and for all for their illegal intrution along our 800km long border with them. There is no place for Thais in Suvannaphumi and they should migrate back to their ancestral homeland in southern China asap.

Tell your stupid dying king and his fat bitch to start negotiating with China for the returns of Thais to Yunnan province!

Some thai may be happy, but they are going to find out very soon that most of their hotels or business have no guest. People won't have a job and cann't produce an income or paying taxes. On top of that, his PAD people had helped thai's economy losing $2 billions a day thru shuting down the sovannaphoumi airport. He'sn't going to be that hot.

Well, if you are a opposition leader, could not win the election, you took a few thousand idiot to the street, bring the legit government down to its knee, together with support of lawlessness of army commanders, and the palace, you can become prime minister. Just ask Abhisit, he just did. Does it has any meaning? Of-corse not! Nothing less than robbery. Hi-jack the people will can not be legitimized.

King Bhumibol could not talk on the eve of his birth day. Cann't you tell? Something isn't exactly right. He may be cheated by Abhisit. After all, he who sat on the throne for over 6o years happyly, all because of a Khmer name Khuang Aphiwong who had first established the royal thai's format under the constitutional monarchy. Otherwise his ass wouldn't be here today and for Bhumibol just to shut his mouth and no saying any good about Cambodia, he'll pay. Thai will way their sin. Lord Buddha will punish him. His family and the thai people will never ever be happy. Hell will bring upon them the arogant thai.

To all the arrogant thais, Khaung Aphiwong is the son of governor Chhum of Battambang and your PM in the 40's. You arrogant must know this!!! and go straight to hell!

it's fun that thai leaders all seemed to be bornt overseas like their present king was bornt in massachusetts, this guy was bornt in the UK. they are really good at making sure their leaders are bornt or affiliated from the west. but they are still thai. smart and clever, heh!

9:49pm is right! he was the son of governor..

Khoung Abhaiwongse, a native of Battambang, Cambodia, created the Thailand's democratic party in 1940's. He was the forefather of the current PAD party in Thailand and Abhisit is elected Thai PM under this party. In essense, Khoung's Khmer spirit stirred much of the political turbulent in Thailand today!

Abhisit was secretely chosen by the Monarchy to be PM because of his strong committment for the Thai Monarchy and the Thai Monarchy intends to save the treasures of the Khmer Empire that are about to fall into the Vietnamese inavders.

The chosen of the highly educated young ThaiPM is to prove to Cambodia that she has no body elese besides a peasant dictator Hun Sen.

ABHISHIT IS ENEMY NO.1 OF CAMBODIA!

Khmer people must understand who caused the Thai occupation of 4.6 km2 near Prasat Preah Vihear, Prasat Ta Moan, Prasat Ta Krabei, etc.
