My mother … she wants to die, my father, he wants to die too, he wants to live in his house. I don’t know where I can go, I don’t know what I can do. Why the government do like this? What do they think? What are they thinking? Why they do like this? We live here for a long time…” – Evicted resident from Dey Kraham

The necessary evil of modernization, man. If development and modernization of Phnom Penh and the rest of Cambodia are to happen, such things are also to happen, willingly or forcibly. As the saying goes, don't hate the players, hate the game lol.

All of this eviction would have never taken place, have Ah potato diggers from oversea not stole their original home and forced them to stole State's land.

You get the government YOU VOTED FOR.

Just look at those thugs! Striking his own people, and gave the land to the evil 7NG! What the thugs get in returning for beating his own people?

No surprise, this sort of conflict happened everywhere on the planet.

The overseas folks who are outspoken against this kind of eviction should feel a sense of irony and hypocrite. Why? Who actually are the majority of the prospective owners of the new condos being built there? The overseas folks who are buying retirement homes in Cambodia and the prospectors who are looking to cash in on the risen real estate property in Cambodia.

Overseas people demand the new modernized condos, the Korean development companies answer your demand and this eviction occurs. Whose fault is it? The government? No. This is private business. Who then? Those prospect customers which many of you overseas folks just happen to be. If you want to blame anyone, blame yourself and your friends and families who are the actual instigators of this eviction.

To one Khmer student in AUS., who claimed to be ashamed of the temple dispute at Wat IRAP in Long Beach. Here my short question: Are you ashamed of what the Hun Sen government has treated the innocent Khmers? If you go to Yahoo Photos, you'll see one lady was knocked unconscious by a bulldozer. O! How desperate and miserable the poor are!
A second Pol Pot reaveal his evils.

All this conflict is a byproduct of Ah Potato Diggers from oversea who stole Khmer land and forcing them to steal State's land and got in trouble for it. All of Ah Potato Diggers should be arrested for scamming and throw in jail for life.

You 10:41PM need to be arrested first for your accusing of someone without solid proof. Let me remind you: you were sent to planet by the King of Hell because you promised him that would never be rude, cocky, arrogant, and savage like Hun Sen anymore. And now you broke all your promises. You know what, after the Khmer New Year is over, King of the Hell will come to furiously hunt you and drag back to hell and never release you again. Remember that, OK?

5:40PM, why don't you blame your corruped government? Is your governemt incompetent to handle its domestic problems? Why other small countries like Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Israel, and many more, etc do not have such cruel evictions like your government do? Don't shift the blame to the buyers from oversea. All the blames must be pressed on the corrupted government officials of all levels from top to toe, who have been sucking the blood of the poor for so long. They are the leeches of the Khmer socity. Natural leeches will drop themselves off when they got enough while human leeches never will. The Hun Sen government leeches keep sucking the Khmer people's blood until they get exhausted and fall flat to the ground and die.

Reportedly there is a fair compensation to each and every family being evicted from the area. Some of them, reportedly, get thousands of US dollar to move on and restart their lives elsewhere.

The slum in, near or around the capital city is a huge ugly stain to the entire country and particularly to the capital city of Phnom Penh where most of foreign visitors stay and enjoy their visit.

We know quite well that it is not an easy task to build a country to a level of prosperity and to instantly heal all hearts in agony at the same time. Many sacrifices MUST be made to reach the edge of a dream of a "utopia in Cambodia" and enter it gradually to achieve true joy for "the next generations" of all Khmer citizens.

Make no mistake, I have many relative living in srok Khmer and many of them are poor also. If I have one of them now living in that troubled spot Dei Krohom I'd tell'em to get the compensation and move out as quick as they can.

I will NOT condone NOR support a government with cruel attitude that mistreats its own constituents. However, in this case I see that there is no good reason to live like a cat who'd refuse to assimilate and move on and restart a brand new life, a life where many poor Khmers could live decently but not in a slum that hurts the image of srok Khmer as a whole.

Nonetheless, I'd urge all Khmer intellectuals working in the government to do their utmost to promote clear understanding to these hurting citizens and assist them all the way to have them settle down in a decent area, but not in a slum.

The Khmer government must show its utmost care for its constituents and eliminate all confusion. Help them please. R-Kun.

Dirt poor Cambodian people can't blame anybody except themselves for voting the same old dictator Hun Sen! Even if dirt poor Cambodian people don't vote and Hun Sen would still win the election through fraud and other mean because he control the ballot boxes!

This is a catch 22 situation! It doesn't matter what Hun Sen want to do and he can chose to kill, oppress, and sacrifice dirt poor Cambodian people and he still come out as a winner! This is what Hun Sen said in his own words "win-win rectangular economic policy" "win-win diplomacy", "win-win politic" "win-win one way trade"...win-win…win-win…

Why AH HUN SEN chose to be patience with Cambodian enemies but not with Cambodian people? This is a burning question!

Some fools in here claimed that 7NG Company gave these dirt poor Cambodian people $20,000 and they refuse to move? Did the fucken 7NG give $20,000 to each of these dirt poor Cambodian people? Hell no!

How about I give AH HUN SEN $20,000 to go buy the same size of land in the same area and build the fucken house too! And tell me how much does it cost? The fucken $20,000 too small amount to unless these dirt poor Cambodian people want to live in the forest with wild animals!

I used to think that dirt poor Cambodian are stupid but they are not that stupid okay and a fair compensation is a must!

khmer rouge hun sen same khmer rouge pol pot all of them have no religion, they were born from ho chi minh sperms

Why would I blame the government, 11:07? They are just doing their jobs.

I think it is a good thing to get rid of the slump in heart of the city. It would be nice to replace it with a nice shopping centre or towers and now that is called urban development.

It is a good thing to get rid of the slump for something else much nicer like a shopping centre etc. The slump is a breeding ground for drug addicts and many things bad. I think it is better for them to move to rural areas and learn to farm or anything, instead of wasting their lives in the city and sowing unnecessary discords that hinder the overall progress of the nation.

Do you want khmer city still get the same thing like in the past or you want Cambodia city growing up?
So all those people the government got pay to them and why you still blamed to the government? If your party were president of khmer people Cambodia will down like pol pot did in the past.

Since CPP's inception date, nothing has change very much. The citizens deserve compensation for public domain rule. Many residents have not been paid or any assistant to relocate to new site. Last year, most residents were forced out of the property and to find a new place in the outskirt in the Flood plain!

What the government is doing Right Now -- IS NOT in the interests of the Country. But, a continuation of the Pol Pot Regime.

There is such a thing as overboard compensation.

I see that you have voiced your concern as well regarding our poor people at home. But I would urge you to write decent articles without using foul languages but with caution and respect to any leader. And that would promote value to your concerned discourse. Any meaningful & constructive criticism by and large is welcome, in my opinion.

As for the fair compensation, if those evicted citizens, either some or most or all of them are being offered $20 grand per family that sum of money is more than fair in Cambodia.

We should see and know the overall struggle in our poor society. To resettle them at once by giving each of the family a good size of land, with a nice home built on it or further more a pair of cows and a brand new motocycle is not feasible to the poor government because there will be hundreds of thousands more poor Khmer families come forth and request for the same aid regardless of different circumstances.

One thing I disagree with the government is the use of forces that sometimes produces chaos and heartachs among those poor citizens and further their sorrow.

The government should use Khmer intellectuals of both genders, not soldiers with battons, to sit down with those citizens being affected to thoroughly and adequately explain them and to promote a clear understandings among them in all aspects of the problems we "all" are facing.

Using violent forces is a sign of ignorance and cowardness. It's not an acceptable effort of the government to use forces to deal with such a minor problem. Ignorant leaders will do so.

The government, once again, must do its utmost to promote clear understandings of the reason(s) they must clear the area and eliminate the slum. Because by doing so it'd subside the confusion in people's mind and make peace in their troubled spirits. My opinion.

From me, a promise in my writing is that I will refrain myself from spending time writing unpleasant words or phrases. I'd apologize if I ever did. Thank you.

12:17AM, what kind of job is your corrupted government doing? What kind of a government that harms and hurt its defenseless people? I heard that your corrupted gov. compensates some $ to those poor people, but much is that amount, $2,000/each? If you were in the same situation what would you do? Because your gov. wants to develop the city, they just toss them aside like that? Is it the people or beauty of your town that voted for your corrupted gov.?

No one voted for Hunxen yuon slave.
