The Cambodian government is actively taking steps to allow foreigners to own property in Cambodia, Xinhua news agency said, citing the Cambodia Daily on February 20.
The Cambodian Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction is now drafting the legal framework to make the idea come true soon, Information Minister Khieu Kanharith was cited as saying at the Banking Cambodia 2009 conference in Phnom Penh.
In a move that will increase the ease of doing business in Cambodia, foreigners will be allowed to have 100 per cent ownership of apartments and condominiums, he said, adding that land, however, will remain off limits to foreign buyers.
At present, foreigners can only gain a 99-year lease on apartments and condominiums.

yes, agree. foreigners should be allowed to own real estate, but not land and water ,etc, underneath it, though, as that belongs to cambodia, the nation of cambodia that is. of course, with that, there are law to govern such ownership as well. hey, cambodia is not alone with this kind of idea because just look around the world, other countries had already had this law in their countries to forbid land ownership by foreigners, but real estate is different thing. with real real estate, cambodia must have a property tax law as well like in the USA, everybody pays property taxes, etc... thank you and god bless cambodia.
yes, foreigner should also be allowed to lease khmer land, but never be allowed to own land outright as land is cambodia's property, not foreign property. khmer people can understand this and would like to have law to govern this. thank you.

6;50AM. Global Witness is the crime of Hun Sen's family and friend members who stole the nation. But this Real Estate thing is not the same is Global Withness case, this is to help some of the economy. As long as those foreigners bring money to spend in Cambodia, then it can help the country at least some.

We get to think how people like this critic 6:50AM would ever one time sit down and think the particular issue which or what can be done or what not.
All we see is that these critics would know only ONE "attack."
But if we ask them how would they do a difference? They cannot answer.
Global Witness is right to go after the criminals in Hun Sen's family memebers and his criminal friends. But why is the Real Estate deal to allow the foreigners to buy the property has to do with the Global Witness goes after the criminals.
Are these critics thinking that they can survive without foreigners go to Cambodia and spend their money in there?
We should allow the foreigners to spend more money in Cambodia. If they are rich like Bill gate and we should allow them to become Khmer citizen.
