What's in a name?CAMBODIAN and Thai military officials meeting in Phnom Penh on Friday failed to broker a deal on withdrawing troops from the disputed border area, but continued to advance a line of cooperation between the sides.
Tensions over the long-disputed border territory flared in July last year after Cambodia was allowed to unilaterally list Preah Vihear temple as a United Nations World Heritage site. Subsequent talks between Cambodia and Thailand have not led to a resolution of the dispute. The last set of talks ended Wednesday in Bangkok with negotiators unable to agree on a common spelling for the temple’s name.
"[We] have agreed to push all existing Cambodian and Thai committees to work together fully in order to resolve the remaining issues effectively," Defence Minister Tea Banh told reporters after meeting with his counterpart Prawit Wongsuwon, while revealing no concrete signs of progress.
The pair later met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong.
Keeping in touch
Hun Sen told reporters outside the Foreign Affairs Ministry that he recommended both sides "meet frequently to cooperate with each other in order to avoid armed clashes".
Firefights broke out in the area in October, leaving three Cambodian soldiers and one Thai soldier dead.
While he made no announcement of progress, Hun Sen pledged there would be no more "military confrontations" between the two countries and approved of the idea of a military withdrawal from hotly disputed Preah Vihear temple.
Currently, about forty troops from each side are stationed around the 11th-century religious site.
Hun Sen is expected to discuss border demarcation with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at the upcoming Asean summit scheduled for February 27 to March 1 in the Thai coastal resort town of Hua Hin.

KHMER (SOCTRANG)
KAMPUCHEA KROM
Only thing to do is to ensure Khmer population with sufficient food ,good health care systems, and good education in order to sustain and gain respect from the world to stop Siam or Yuon bullying.
Hun Sen thinks too much of himself that why Siam or others disrespect his government.
siem nation owed their national identity to the great khmer civilization, so, it is the least they can do to honor their khmer heritage and legacy by adopting the khmer name "preah vihear" once and for all to eternity so future conflict can be prevented. this is the truth; and it's not the other way around.
Apparently it is nothing new. Talk after talk all but failed and yielded no significant bilateral agreement. The Thai gov't is evidently practicing its patience, persistency and perseverance in border talk with the Khmer.
It's an old technic being used again and again to wear down the psychological strength of the opponent in hope that the Khmer gov't will eventually give in to its (Thia gov't) pursued greed - a sweet gain. A greed that obviously grows & lives in Thais heart since the ancient time, many centuries ago, until this day.
Ten more new talks, I'd predict, will still yield no fruits for as long as the Thai gov't fails to persuade the Khmer gov't to give in & agree with its "dream team" assigned to collect a bitter sweet victory. A malicious victory the Siamese have tried hard, perhaps indefinitely, to achieve but the Khmers know it and therefore they, the Khmers, cannot and will not allow to happen.
Moreover, it is questionable if this latest Thai gov't of Abhisit Vejjajiva was created with a legitimacy in accordance with the Constitution of Thailand.
If it was not and more than a half of all Thai constituents do not recognize it as their legitimate and elected government then the Khmer gov't should not waste time and effort in any future border talk with this gov't ruled by Abhisit Vejjajiva.
The Thai gov't from past to present is doing things against its own conscience hoping to gain more benefit to the nation whether it is an illogical or it is rather an obvious despicable act.

I think it's better to make friends, not enemies, with Vietnam. Just ask the Americans. They know.
Khmer people mix well with Vietnamese but not with the white people. Why? The Vietnamese don't look down at Khmer people and their women will happily date and marry Khmer men. As for the white folks, they're very racist. The old white men can take Khmer women any time they want, but they won't let their daughters near Khmer men. How many white women do you see with Asian men? Definitely not as many as white men with Asian women.
As for you people who don't like "Yuon" taking over Cambodia, you're on the wrong side of nature. When people consider one another as equal they will mix, it's natural. When one group think they're superior, they are racist and don't mix. Some of you Khmer people look down on your Asian brothers and sisters to serve the your masters. I don't think you're going anywhere because you don't mix with the white people very well. Racism is wrong and evil. So don't bring that shit to Cambodia. People are people.
4:03 AM & 3:35 AM,
First you Viet CPP leech should go eat shit and die, okay?
Secondly, the world already knows the Viet true color.
The Viet is kowtowing and sucking the West's blood daily while the Viet foot is holding Khmer's head down on the ground to bark and hate the west for them.
Hope you get it now!
