Preah Vihear temple have access roads from all directions after a temporary paved road has been completed recently. The access roads to Preah Vihear temple will be upgraded, complete with vehicle parking lots.

Mr. Hang Soth, secretary-general of the Preah Vihear Authority, told Reaksmei Kampuchea that, other than constructing an access paved road, the Bayon foundation is in the process of constructing a "reception centre" at the foot of the mountain. He said also that, to the east, the Autority had ordered the constructions of staricases leading to the temple.

The staircases will be built along the ancient stairways and will be cconstructed by using natural rocks. The construction will take a long time to complete, therefore the Authority has ordered the construction of a temporary concrete stairways for temporary usage.

The old staircases, 3,000 in total which was constructed from woods, have deteriorated badly. The new staircases to be built, will be built at the T-junction at the foot of the mountain to the temple. It is 1418 metres in length but the access road to the temple will be widened to 7 metres wide, paved with concrete and complete with a parking lot capable of housing 50 vehicles.

Along these ancient staircases, there will be a plan to build an elephant track for tourist rides.

The access roads from Cambodia have been constructed, so please close the access/gate from the Thai side forever.

If those projects mapped out as mentioned in the article will be successfully completed under the current authority, it would be a breaking record in for the gov’t. for rebuilding the country in Cambodia’s history.

Let hope, the projects will go ahead as planned!

"... a parking lot capable of housing 50 vehicles".

I'm not sure if it was meant to say "fifty" vehicles. But the new and wide parking lots should be able to at least house 300 vehicles to begin with.

It is a bad tradition that the Khmers usually build small things in their living standard like small houses and other buildings, small bridges, narrow roads, small parking lots, small boats, small oxcarts.

And no dining tables in their houses - they sit directly on the mat-laid floor to enjoy their daily meal, etc.

This is a bad and self degrading tradition. And it must be changed. It is now 2009.

How to access Phrah Viharn is no one business but Khmer Leu's (the owner).

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but there is nothing to see on the bottom of the hill.

This is what I called a proactive measure against the Siem naked aggression by Khmer leaders! From now on the Siem leaders can say that Khmer Phrea Vihear temple can only be accessed from their side of the border!

This is the way to end the Khmer Phrea Vihear temple conflict with Siem!

yes, it's about time for cambodia to take care of our national relics like preah vihear temple. we can rebuilt the beautiful khmer naga stairways leading all the way up to the top of the mountain like our ancestors did. plus we should build more permanent good, all-season roadways to the vicinity of our sacred preah vihear temple. we can't afford to keep our border areas isolated any longer! it's time we take action permanently so thief can't come and steal from us again! god bless cambodia.

I agree with 2:10AM! we can not left our border area isolated any more! we must protects and kept our military base there permanently from Phnom Krovine, Koh Kong always to Preah vihear province, Cambodia must setup a military base there permanently to keep an eyes on Thai-thieft! we must also built road around the border area to protects..this is a national security-line-prtected all along the entire border, so people feel safe to live there, to prevent Thai-thieft come in and destroying people farms!

Cambodia govt should build new rail roads and new rail-way stations to Preah vihear Temple, tourists love to travel by rail-way to see countryside and the Temple...

building new roadways and railways not only to mark our territory, but it helps to bring people to live in the area as well when life is easier for them to make a living there! let me use this cliche: it's like a home without anyone there, the thief will take that opportunity to trespass and steal from the home, but when the owners and a lot of people there, then it deters thief from stealing. some concept with our border areas, my dear. thank you and god bless cambodia.

Dear Khmers,

I agreed with all the comments above. There is nothing to see on Thai's side of the border. Just shut the gate permanently. Foreigners know how to travel to Cambodia thru i.e. Kuala Lumpur, H.K, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore, Osaka, and etc.

The Cambodian Gov't should expand Phnom Penh Int'l airport.

Love you all Khmers, I'm very proud to read all your comments. I'm very proud to be Khmer, even I live in NY.

yes, it's called being smarter to do so. it's about time. god bless cambodia.

What is with Ah Jkouts above? They expect the government to build this and build that. Don't they ever heard of "Money"?

Anonymous said...

We open the gate in Siemese side, but
We must charge three time higher than used to be, and will be a small fee or free to all Khmers included Khmer Sarin if they enter from our side.

Thanks for all comment in here
I am so proud of all the khmers.
I love you all

All these comments proof how narrow minded and nationalistic people can be! Just get over the differences and be civilized! Just can't understand your view of the world!

Shame on Khmers and Thais alike.

Your nationalistic egos and hatred of each other is like a cancer which eats away at the souls of you both.

Your attitudes can only bring death and destruction in the future.

Time to learn how to get along now, for face the horrible consequences down the road.

Agreed!

It time to go 50/50 and kiss and make up for the past misunderstanding.

Please don't forget that Preah Vihear is now a world's heritage side. Yes, it's inside our land, but we should treat everybody fairly, if we are to invite the world over to see. Remember that 50 parking lots is a peanut, but it's for a start. Picturing a mushrom of hotels and motels and shops at the areas surrounding the mountain. We need to think beyond Cambodia and if Cambodia is to seek the world's advisers, most of you here will get an F. Business doesn't work discriminating against other people. Other people are the world and the world must come by cars, trucks, trains and by air! Welcome to cambodia! :)

50 parking lots??? That's more like for a cemetary. What about a dome for concert year round? or an amusement park or a sport stadium? or even a golf course or guest houses? Come on! People need more entertainment? and what about a place to shop which calls a shoping mall? Do you want them to leave right after they walk up there?

How about a casino as well? You guys are good at that.
