The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) has denied that it has expelled 300 councillors who took bribes and voted for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) during the municipal election on 16-17 May, reports everyday.com.
Mr. Yim Sovan, the SRP's spokesman, said that those 300 councillors had voluntarily resigned and have not been coerced to resign as has been reported in the media.
He added that the resignations of these 300 councillors will not affect the popularity of the party.
Recently, the SRP had issued a statement saying that it has sacked 9 councillors from Phnom Penh for taking bribes and voted for the ruling CPP.

If I was Sam Rainsy, I would do it just to see what people think. I bet lots of Khmer overseas need lot of liquor following the news.
I believe they have been coerced to resign in some ways. but even if they did not resign or coerced to resign, they have to be expelled anyway because they commit corruption. They didn't vote with their conscience, but vote with their corrupt mentality. Taking bribes to vote for any party is corruption. Anyone committing corruption must receive punishment. In the West they can go to jail for that.
