Thai PM says delayed Preah Vihear temple World Heritage Site registration could solve problems BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Tuesday he believes a delay in registering ancient Preah Vihear temple on the Thai-Cambodian border as a World Heritage Site could allow the two countries to be able to solve other border problems.
Mr. Abhisit told journalists that Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suwit Khunkitti had briefed Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, held earlier in the day, on his attending the World Heritage Committee meeting held in Seville, Spain between June 22-30, and that he had handed a letter to the Committee that comprised a Thai government request to review Cambodia’s unilateral application for the historic temple to be listed as a World Heritage Site.
UNESCO agreed at the Seville meeting to delay the formal registration of the temple as a World Heritage Site until next February as the organization still has a number of other matters to implement, Mr. Abhisit said.
The delay, said Mr. Abhisit, could give an opportunity to the two countries to solve other problems related to the border.
UNESCO granted Cambodia’s application for Preah Vihear temple to be designated a World Heritage Site in July 2008. Thailand has argued that the action had led to several armed clashes around the temple and urged the world agency to review its approval.

hey, if worse come to worse, even a brief delay won't hurt cambodia as cambodia is still the sole owner and lawful owner of preah vihear and surrounding area. the thai will soon run out of more excuses. cambodia already have other plan if worse come to worse. we can always ban any entry from the thai side permanently if push come to shove, and only allow all tourists and visitors to enter from cambodian side of the border only as we work to secure and safeguard on ancient temples. i'm sure the thai need cambodia's cooperation in any situation regards preah vihear and redemarcating of the entire borderline to make it modern. so, be patient, thailand can't do it by themselves, you know! any and all has to be written in treaty and lawfully gone in the spirit of international cooperation. however, don't forget that if it the issue of ownership, we cannot negotiate any with thailand as icj verdict had confirmed preah vihear temple and even the surrounding areas are cambodia's already. cambodia will take the case for the final time to icj again, if push come to shove. this time it'll be real permanent and properly demarcated despite the thai emotional distress. i guess cambodia will have to move and act persistently on this case as well.

and delay, if true, does not mean cambodia lose preah vihear temple to thailand, it probably just mean a technical delay. remember, it if the issue of ownership, then it will be an issue for cambodia, but just a dely so the thai can adjust or whatever the demarcating of the actual borderline , then it's not an issue in our view. but don't dream of owning preah vihear temple and surrounding accessway because that is rightfully belong to cambodia already! don't forget thailand will need cambodia's cooperation as well in fixing this matter. don't be so one-sided and bias, people; it's not all about thailand, it's about cambodia as well!
If worse come to worse HUN SEN must demand the UN for the Thailand to return all the Khmer's provinces back too.
is unesco really know what they are doing by changing the listing to please the thai? does unesco knowing anything about cambodia's preah vihear? it ought be the question of lawfulness of ownership. again, what if preah vihear is not listed as world heritage site, can cambodia request to list it by ourself as an a lawful owner without the thai or siem thief interfering in our own decision? what if the border demarcation is still in perpetual dispute with cambodia, does that mean preah vihear will not be listed? so, what benefit of listing with unesco for cambodia's preah vihear temple? will cambodia have other alternative if say it's not listed? can be still care take of our ancient temple, the preah vihear temple? these are some of thoughtful questions we should be brainstorming in order to come up with a good solution for our national symbol that our khmer ancestors left us in the forms of magnificent godly temple.

It is already too late for that issue. Hun Sen is already talking for a year celebration this July 14 Prasat Preah Vihear one year anniversary throughout the kingdom.

for cambodia, it's not the issue of listing our ancient khmer temple with unesco for world heritage site, it more of the clear ownership! i'm wondering is thailand paying into unesco for protection of world heritage sites? cambodia should serious protest them on this. get to the point with thailand on the issue of ownership once and for all. unesco should not question the essence of preah vihear as a world heritage site because 1) preah vihear is needing rescue from its years of isolation, and abandoment, and i'm sure the world has a lot of interest in khmer ancient temples. so, preah vihear ought be the top agenda for its listing so cambodia can receive cultural aid from unesco to help preserve and develop our preah vihear forever!

Don't believe Thai Leaders' propaganda because they just wanted to save the Thailand's face in public. As you know Thai are good on telling a lie.
More, the temple and its surrounding land is shown clearly on the international recognition map in the Cambodia's sovereignty.
However, we have to be more careful on Thailand's black tactics in its bad ambition in the policy of expansionism.
In my own opinion, i think that we should use some strategies to show the world that bilateral negotiation does not work because Thailand not respect its agreements, custom and international laws, and then we can bring the case to UNSC to monitor the whole joint border between the two countries including maritime boundary.
Why do you Cambodians want Preah Vihear, what for? Land of the Khmer Empire in Thailand is larger than land of the Khmer empire in Cambodia, which means the majority will win.
Cambodians in Cambodia are not Khmers, may be the Royal Family members can still have Khmer blood, because they can be traced to the past history.
You Cambodians are tribes and you didn't win Preach Vihear, but His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk who won. Now he is old and he soon dies, Preah Vihear will have to return to us more Khmers decent in Thailand.
Just look at your last names, many are Ung, Seng, Hun, Kim, Kong, Hong...Hok, Heng and they are of Chinese decent.
