A tense trial for Mu Sochua

FRIDAY'S three-hour trial of opposition member of parliament Mu Sochua provoked tension both inside and outside the courtroom, with physical altercations between the lawmaker's supporters and security officials in the hallway of Phnom Penh Municipal Court and heated rhetoric during the actual proceedings.

As she arrived at the court to answer to defamation charges filed against her by Prime Minister Hun Sen, Mu Sochua described her case as a "struggle" that affected "the soul of all strugglers who struggle for justice".

The charges stemmed from an April speech given by Hun Sen, during which he referred to an unnamed woman as cheung klang, a term meaning "strong legs" that is viewed by some as derogatory when used to describe women. The speech prompted Mu Sochua to file a defamation suit.

Hun Sen denied that he had been referring to her and countersued her for defamation, pointing to an April 23 press conference in which she made her suit public. Mu Sochua's case was thrown out, whereas the premier was allowed to proceed with his.

Once inside the courtroom, Mu Sochua accused the ruling Cambodian People's Party of depriving her of legal representation. Her lawyer, Kong Sam Onn, opted out of the case after a defamation suit and bar complaint were filed against him.

"No lawyer would dare to represent me because of the fears and the pressure," she said. "My lawyer has become the victim for representing me."

She declined to respond to questions during the hearing.

In his presentation to Judge Sem Sakola, government lawyer Ky Tech accused Mu Sochua of encouraging people to direct "discrimination and hatred" towards Hun Sen.

Deputy Prosecutor Sok Kalyan said Mu Sochua's attempt to paint Hun Sen's comments as insulting to all women was a misleading ploy to "put the blame" on the premier.

"Samdech [Hun Sen] had made the speech about one woman, not towards women in the whole country and the world," he said. "Mu Sochua said that it affected women in general, but it is not a fact."

Sem Sakola said she would deliver a verdict August 4.

SRP scuffle
Before Mu Sochua's arrival, politicians, supporters, journalists and observers gathered outside the Municipal Court building, some of them holding candles as a part of an SRP-led demonstration of solidarity with the lawmaker.

After some of the candle-holding supporters moved into the building, police tried to confiscate the candles, saying they had been instructed to do so by their superiors.

Some members of the group resisted, including SRP lawmaker Chea Poch, who said, "You are police, you should not be doing this."

The exchange led to a brief shoving match in the hallway of the courthouse, though no injuries were sustained.

Hun sen is a coward. Now he is denying that he didn't referred it to Ms Mu Sochua.

If he have any man in him. He should say it, and say it straight out directly. This is why hanoi got him to be their "crash-test-dummies" slave.

This be a shameful lesson to powerful sexist individuals in government who seem to perpetuate hatred toward opponent especially a woman in politics.

The victimized MP Mu Soc Hua is representative to her women votes. Thus she is not just a woman but a voice for the women in the whole country.

Hun Sen is too big of a man to stoop this low in making a spectacle in dividing and despiriting Cambodia women fragile rights.

If he's a good son of a peansantry, the least he could do is to reconcile and apologize to public in making a log out of a speck.

Indeed, this is stupid does stupid is.

Everyone either the dictator or his victims is stupid to some extent. Every thing is almost the same, just that in the old days people used bows and arrows and horses or elephants. In today, people use gun, and nuclear weapons.
Are Mu Sochua and Hun Sen the first people? No.

Just that when these two fight, Cambodia faces danger even greater than ever before, the enemies are marching into Cambodia from East faster than they did in the past, while they use a climate changes as their political advantage.

Egypt,
Hun Sen himself is the enemy walks on people from the east.

He is not the first or not the last enemy of Cambodia to be judged by the world.

To who just wrote ‘Democratic Kampuchea Pol Pot Khmer Rouge Regime had committed:’and telling me to go to Angkor era.

I have such small comments to say but not too long like you. There’s some countries are corrupted and abused and so on, you don’t have to provide such a long descriptions. We knew all about this, it’s not just Cambodia other countries too corrupted. If we don’t have 7 January 1979, you guy wouldn’t have been fleeing out of the country to live in abroad, you live in abroad, you earn your degrees and living life style is much better compare to the people in Cambodia. Am I right? Do not cause too much problem against your native, it’s your country. I was a former Khmer Rouge soldier, I am now just an ordinary person, I love everyone no matter what, thus please don’t nail Cambodia down to hell.

Also, Yes! I have always traveled to Angkor Wat where my hometown is. I adore my country no matter what, I will defend and fight for my country. Thank you.

Angkorian Man,
You failed to mention that the cause of pain and suffering is also contributed by you.... the "Khmer Rouge soldier?"
And you have the nerve to bring up the January 7,1979?
With out you....Angkorian Khmer Rouge, we wouldn't have 1/7/79.
Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself this......who started the problem with your native country?

Like the previous poster said, it's probably best that you stick w/ with your Ankorian era.

Well, Well,Well….Let me make it short, I do not want to chat with your guy too long otherwise it’ll make no sense regarding to I was a former Khmer rouge soldier and concerning Mu Sohour’s case.

The people are not all bad, even Khmer Rouge NOT all bad either, you’d been marked that all Khmer Rouges are bad, I admit that. We, Khmer Rouge had a bad reputation since 1975 and would never clear from your mind. I was a former Khmer Rouge soldier, however I had never have killed anyone, I was stationed in Siem Reap where my hometown is, located around ‘Srock Phdak’. I worked harder like the 17-people. Now I am just an ordinary person like you. You should not hold your heart against me and to the other Khmer Rouge cadre or soldier. We are Khmer, if you still continue to cause problem with Khmer and Khmer, it’s not going to heal up. Can you open your hear and your eyes see what’s happening between Khmer and Thai?

Concerning Mrs. Mu Sohour’s case, as I stated she causes problem too much against Samdech Hun Sen, she shouldn’t be a position as she is now, I wish Samdech chase her out. I never bother to read her case. Once again, you better start to adore our beautiful homeland, our nation, we will win. Well I get to go now; I’ll chat with you later. Thanks

Angkorian Man or Krama Man

Angkorian man..
Now that you admitted to being a former khmer rouge and did not apologize to the victims family, you deserve to be hung and burned alive. I wish that someday you will be hung for crimes you committed in the Khmer rouge era.

Anonymous said...

Ankorian you would shut your khmer rouge stink mouth up, your comment making people naughty ,it is we score or tolerate people like you but,
#1 You worship about your regime ,that not even your own people are disgust but the whole world.
#2 You kiss ass Mr traitor which came from the same regime.
#3 You said u do not want to response too long but ,open your eyes and read your comment it very long so you are a liar or bullshitter .

I wish you don't call yourself Angkorian. What a shame! Angkor is Khmer symbol, and someone like yourself should be called stupid, blind, ignorant, senseless... Need I say more? How can you blame Mrs. Hu for the troubles faced by your one-eyed (blind like you...)PM who is a coward that started the whole thing and he is too ashame to apologize for his mistake. He thinks that he is God. The Vietnamese steal Khmer land and your God wouldn't dare to speak out against that thievery. I guess he sees the example that his boss set on Mr Pen Sovann, right?

Dear Egypt,
Assuming that you know Cambodia more than we did but let me ask you this:

To what degree that you know Hun Sen is the enemy of people?
Then to what degree that you accuse us, Cambodians, as part of the problems?

I may agree with you that I am part of the problem that is I speak up against Hun Sen abuses of power and women.

Angkorian Man,
It's just pointless to argue w/ a person like you who can't distinguish the different between right and wrong.
You sir, have a guilty conscience. Stop lying to yourself and do the right thing by going back home and surrender yourself to the Tribunal Court.
What is so right about slaughter the innocent men, women and children? Yet, they are your people!
Please do us a favor. Find the nearest closet along with your black krama wrap around your neck and hang yourself.
Stop calling yourself "Angkorian Man."
The more suitable names for you would be..... Pol Pot Man.
