Phnom Penh asked the Thai government to clarify the events and to bring the culprits to justice in a case where a 16-year-old Cambodian teenager was burnt alive by Thai soldiers last week in Oddar Meanchey province.

The Cambodian government asks Bangkok to launch an investigation to shed light on the murder of Yon Rith, a 16-year-old teenager, who was arrested and burnt live by Thai soldiers last week in Oddar Meanchey province, along the Thai border. In a diplomatic note, the Cambodian ministry of Foreign Affairs asked that “those who committed these cruelty acts be brought to justice.”

“The acts constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law,” the ministry insisted while recalling its inadequateness towards the bilateral cooperation agreements concluded last 4-5 August in Bangkok.

On Friday 11 September, Cambodian villagers were shot at by Thai soldiers near the Thai border while they were “allegedly” logging wood in an illegal zone, the Oddar Meanchey provincial authorities indicated. Two teenagers were shot: Mao Kleung was able to escape, but Yon Rith was not so lucky.

Every time read the news, Khmer people always got killed by the Thai soldiers. What's going on the Khmer gov't? Do they feel any pain or compassion for thier own people? Do they have pride as Khmer born ?

It is so sad to know my Khmer compatriots have been killed in such a cruel way. Also, I am even so hurt when justice cannot be sought for the dead. As far as I have noticed, the Thai government does not often take any serious actions again their own criminals who had killed Cambodian people. Such a things have happened for so long in Cambodia. As a Cambodian citizen, I feel the need to request that the government fully take part in this problem and urge the Thai government to find the criminals and bring them to trial.

If khmer corssing over illegally, all they did, just jail them, not killing and burning them alive..? khmer people went there because Thai employed them, our government must press Thai authority to turn in that soldier to cambodia, do not kiss Thai ass no more!!!!!!!!!

I am certain that Khmer blood is not that cheap. BUT, a big But, is that the khmer leaders of the last generations have made KHMER BLOOD all that CHEAP.

Burning a person alive is a serious crime against humanity.

I agree that the Thai government should compensat the boy family. They also should bring the soldiers to justice. What ever they do wrong, there should be a consequence. Or otherwise, they not be afraid doing it again. At least i know the boy is free from suffering, but his soul never rest, untill justice prevail.
Because he die in such a painful way. No one in this world deserve to die like this boy. He was hungry, poor and burn alive. Please sombody bring Thai soldiers to justice.
