Military ties between Cambodia and Thailand remain tight, army chief Anupong Paojinda said on Tuesday.
His statement came as political relations between the two countries soured after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced he would welcome ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra to Cambodia and that the Cambodian government would not allow his extradition to Thailand.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva responded by asking Mr Hun Sen to decide between personal relations and bilateral benefits with Thailand.
Gen Anupong would not say whether Puea Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh's visit to the neighbouring country would affect the army in any way. He said he did not know whether Gen Chavalit was there to discuss personal matters or not.
But the army chief reiterated that situation along the Thai-Cambodian border remains calm, and that soldiers of the two countries are obeying their governments' decision to solve the border conflicts through bilateral talks.
"I can assure you that the situation there will not lead to fighting, and we will not resort to the use of force," Gen Anupong said.

Hun Hen 's makes chailand get angry by his words that he allowed Thaksin Shinawatra to come in Cambodia to stay during he has a big problem with his own country. Why Thaksin Shinawatra have this day? why no way to go ? why Hun Hen need to welcome him? why need to make mistake with government of Chai people? that our cambodian know thai people are not nice to be a friend. and always thai make conflict and war in their country. and now want to start conlict with cambodia.
Khmer peopel never afraid of thai people.
in the past thai win khmer but now no more.
Hun Hen should stop to contact with Thai government or should not forgive or say sorry about his worlds that he allowed Thaksin Shinawatra lives in Cambodia.Thai government should not make friend with.
Usually Thailand sending more troops and Showing off their muscles already, after a strong warning, strong message from Hun Sen, but Thais are kind playing soft and cool, i think they probably knew that their army are no match to Hun Sen rouge army, the only advantage Thailand has on cambodia is their air power, that's it, if cambodia can has something very powerful to defence Thai air power, Thailand don't stance a chance with khmer army....
Thailand can't stand a chance against khmer army right now, cambodia just received the most modern weapons lately, air defence and some more new Tanks, and Long range artillery, if Thai dare to encroaching again, they will be in big trouble, this one going to be the worst one! Khmer army had so much heavy weapons right now...
