“The Ministry of Defense will train the reservists on fighting tactics and defense tactics as a base.”The Council of Ministers passed a decree Friday that would begin to create a reserve force, despite previous government policy to reduce military spending.
Friday's decree would draw a reservist force from early resignations, soldiers who have completed their enlistments or even “experts” who have ben involved in military tasks.
The broadening of the military comes at a time of increasing countrywide nationalism that has been spurred by on ongoing border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. The decree also follows a 2006 law that provides for military conscription.
“The Ministry of Defense will train the reservists on fighting tactics and defense tactics as a base,” Thum Sotheat, a three-star general and a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, told VOA Khmer.
The training could also include specialties, such as engineering, construction or medical work, he said.

We believe wholeheartedly if Cambodia did have a true democracy where there is a govt of the people, by the people, and for the people, then the country will be much stronger .When our people see no social injustice where everybody is under the law then, they will be quiet and unite as one under the leadership of a truly elected govt, and when the country need , they will be together to confront our common enemies.

Good to start getting your house in order. The idiots in the west is blowing its steam.
Make sure you put the Vietnamese immigrants in Cambodia on reserve as well. They should help protect the land if they are benefiting from the land.
We have seen many chiefs with stars up their ass without indians. Now we see that these bogus chiefs need to find indians to fill the ranks of their private armies at the expense of the poor and the powerless.
It will be interesting to see if any of the rich and powerful CPP cronies children get drafted.
The true intent of this new policy is nothing more than to make more slaves out of young Khmers, and expand the power of the youns. They will force young Khmers to leave their family, and farms behind unprotected, where they the youns will keep pouring in to replace able-body Khmers.
How many young Khmers lost their lives and limbs from the K5 strategic plan (genocide).
Look out Khmer this is going to be another one of those plan or simply K6 Genocide!
Just modernize the missile technologies which will help reduce the large arm force! What Cambodia need is a few good men who know how to push the red button ( not the panic button) to launch those rockets!
