A monk was defrocked for having sexual relationships with a minor. Pregnant, the young teen had to have an abortion during her 7th month pregnancy.
Since 2009, 56-year-old Chan Tuon, Kampong Chhnang’s Wat Preah Ream Raingsey Pagoda chief, had an affair with a 16-year-old girl. It was fine until she became seven month pregnant and decided to tell the whole affair to her mother.
The case took a new turn when both mother and daughter demanded that Chan Tuon pay for her abortion. The monk then gave them 900,000 riels (~$225), but he denied all responsibility in the affair. The monk went on to claim that the pregnancy was caused by the teen’s own father.
The claim was not accepted by Sao Pheareak, the children’s rights investigator for Licadho in Kampong Chhnang. “In May, our headquarters received a letter allegedly from the victim. She accused her father of raping her and she asked him to have an abortion. Following the investigation and expertise from the department of fight against traffic and protection of minors, it turned out the monk was the real culprit.”
Nevertheless, even with all the proofs available, the victim’s family decided not to complaint about the case, arguing that the monk would financially provide for their needs. Thus, the case cannot be taken to court. “Immediately after the investigation, the teenager insisted that the monk write a letter to her father to make him confess to the crime,” Sao Pheareak indicated. “In fact, she was too sacred that her father would send her to work in Thailand and that she would be separated from a man whom she claimed she love.” To date, the monk is still charged by the department for the protection of minors.

The monk is not out of it at all, even the girl family doesn't complain, state could prosecute him in a criminal court by imposing family members to testify and the prove is very convincing.

These crooked monks and corrupted monks when they got too much of money from donors, they went crazy and done stupidity things, there's no truth religions or honest people anymore! it's all about money and scheme, scams people(believers) you just can't find the truth-honest monks anymore? the truth monks they will not even touch money at all, cuz foods and supplies already well prepared for them...but monks today forget it? saving up all cashes and bought himself a Lexus, Rang Rover, Luxury villa, paid for sex...?? life simple huh?
Life behind bars for these corrupted people to teach them a big lesson, otherwise, people never learn?
We had monk involved in politics in Lowell, Ma.. Monks suppose to focus on religions only, people became monk just to gain their own benefits only today...Monk name SAO KHON, RITHY PUL were crooked, they stole alot of money from all temples around United States, these crooked monks claim to be or wanted to be like samdach paul Catholic?? control all bank accounts...??
It's case of an invidual. If Cambodia really enforces its laws as it claim it does, then imprison that stupid monk to the maximum of his guilt. But I think Cambodia's law is good only on paper, but the practice of it is bad. It's bad and messy just like the traffic of Phnom Penh is.

Well, it's not about religion.It's about an individual or HUMAN.I heard a monk in U.S.A got a woman pregnant, got defrocked ,just lazy to go to work and become monk all over again and people still give him free food and free shelter.What is wrong with these khmer buddhist?.

the problem is why people offer sex to monk? the monk couldn't have sex if the victim's family supervised their daughter to stay away from a chief monk, becuz they knew the chief monk has money, and they trying to play game of affection and that how they have to pay for it. we should understand a monk is also a human, he can get sick, need sex and lose morality,and a monk is not a god. some are just crook trying to stay in temple becuz they are lazy to work and living their life like a normal person.

Ironically, the khmer rouges did their best yet couldn't get rid of it. religions is definitely a cancer of societ and strive in poverty and ignorance. these people continue to see priests and monks above themselves, or even above their own families.
with thse type of ignorance, they not only fell victim but they victimize their own institution. buddhism will die not b/c of its enemies but b/c of its followers. It is a decay destroying from within.
I do not understand how buddhism is so much practiced in cambodia, yet cambodians are one of the worst notorious killers on earth. cambodians will kill eachother over their dogs. but they crumble and kneel before polticians who violating them every fucking day.
