1. From September 7 (Tue) to 12 (Sun), Mr. Osamu Fujimura, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Thailand (Bangkok, Khon Kaen and Mukdahan), Laos(Savannakhet) and Cambodia (Phnom Penh and Siem Reap).
2. Mr. Fujimura will attend the "Mekong-Japan International Conference on East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and Southern Economic Corridor (SEC)" co-chaired by Thailand and Japan and held in Thailand on September 9. Prior to the Conference, Mr. Fujimura will visit Japan's economic projects on the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC). In Laos, he will visit Savannakhet which is along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and will exchange views on ways to utilize the economic corridor with Lao government officials. On September 10, Mr. Fujimura will visit Cambodia and will exchange views on bilateral relations and future bilateral cooperation with senior government officials. He will also visit the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) and Japan's economic cooperation projects.

At the First Mekong-Japan Summit (November, 2009) Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of Thailand proposed that it would be useful to make a plan for the next five years regarding the development of "missing links" of the main road networks of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and Southern Economic Corridor (SEC). Following this proposal, the governments of Japan and Thailand decided to hold a conference aimed at sharing both hardware and software best practices directed to solve "missing links" of both corridors and discovering solutions. The conference is planned to be co-chaired by Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Mr. Osamu Fujimura, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Japan, with attendance from the Mekong region countries and related international organizations. The outcome of the conference will be reported to the Second Mekong-Japan Summit, which is planned to be held this October.
