Opinion by Ma Pretty

Dear Compatriots,

Here come a new great divider, a young and somewhat inexperienced political agitator who has managed to fool a few nationalists on the extreme end - thinking that he can change Cambodian politics just as smoothly as he talks. More than that, he managed to blame every political leaders, left and right, from Monarchy to anyone he disagreed with on saving Cambodia. He claimed to have all solutions to all Cambodian problems, and presented himself as the only person who is full of you-know-what to know how to get back Koh Tral and the rest of Cambodia. Sound good, isn't it? If you are not sophisticated enough, you can be fooled, and perhaps you will be kind enough to take out a few bucks to hand to this new Cambodia's saviour, so he can travel places, without having any need to hold on to any real jobs in USA. If you don't know who I am talking about, read on...

It did not come to me as a surprise to learn that Mr. Sourn Serei Ratha has finally revealed his ultimate personal ambition to form a political organization and proclaiming himself to be the leader. What concern me most in his particular case is his views on Cambodian political process from the legal standpoint. Beaware of many dangers ahead, especially of having any associations with him and/or this new group. You certainly do not want to end up like people who previously joined Chhun Yasith, a US citizen who has been convicted by the United States government for plotting to overthrow a legit government. It has got to be legal.

After listening to Mr. Ratha’s comment and declaration on Radio Post of Long Beach - program of August 22, 2010, I could not help but must take the liberty to inform every decent Cambodians to look out for danger in getting involved with this new organization. One needs to understand that a political organization has to be operated within the rule of laws, nationally and internationally. Mr. Sourn does not believe in political participation of our country's democratic process, and a few of his members shared the same view. Whatever you do or decide, you must understand who and what you are associating yourself with, and what would be the legal and political fall-out, if any.

Mr. Sourn is trying a play to a raw sentiment of ordinary people, including some frustrated and yet somewhat extreme nationalists who have limited understanding the complexity of our country's politics, from both national and global context. He is now embarking on a dangerous journey by leading a very radical and extreme organization which has yet to be accepted or legalized by our country's highest institutions. I wonder how he wishes to achieve his political aim when he’s never once believed in the legal political process of our country, Cambodia.

He has called all opposition groups as, if I quoted him correctly, either "Tourist and/or commercial politicians." To him, and his associates, oppositions offer no solutions, but more of a lingering complaints and problems to the overall Cambodia's mess. Mr. Sourn has a solution, and he is readied to lead, to bring all factions and groups, under his enormous talent and creativity which will lead us to not only save Cambodia's proper, Kampuchea Krom, but also get our Koh Tral back. It sounds like a real deal here, isn't it. But wait folks, if you are not thinking through, and if anyone are not well-informed on the pros and cons of this new group with this particular new leader, you could find yourself, personally, and your country in a whole lots deeper mess than you could possibly imagine. If there is a perfect name for a new politician or group like Mr. Sourn, given the way he conducted himself, beside tourist, commercial or the likes, here is one which I think would perfectly suit him well, A POLITICAL CON-ARTIST. Please do not go there, folks.

They should deport the whole family, that way at least they can share the misery together under the Hun San regime.

They were given the freedome to be what they can be but instead they turned to the dark side. They and their families didn't even bother to become citizenship probably were too busy committing crimes. Now some people are feeling sorry for them.

listen to idea as we all can learn from everybody else; something we did not think about before, etc... it's called new perspective, i guess. let's have open mind. in the school of thought, there is no such thing as a bad question, really, given it is relevant to the subject, though!

These people like to talk tough, act cool. They like to act like niggers and yet they are not niggers so even niggers don't like them.

Gee, I read the article and nowhere the author give us any facts at this new comer. The author drummed up climax in the beginning but offered no factual proof what the intent is besides calling the silly oppositions and I quote, "He has called all opposition groups as, if I quoted him correctly, either "Tourist and/or commercial politicians." To him, and his associates, oppositions offer no solutions, but more of a lingering complaints and problems to the overall Cambodia's mess."

And you know what they are all internationally commercialized oppositions! Could you please name something that these oppositions have done or changed? NOTHING!!!!!!

And now your are here to advocate to our fellow Khmers on KI to watch out? Are trying to scare new comers who want to help change our country for the better? Kampuchea Krom, Koh Tral? It's a long shot but Martin Luther King Had a dream!!!

I smell a TROLL here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Khmer never wake up, she just dream and dream and till now still dream....Cambodia and Vietnam both was under France, why French like Vietnam more than us? Why it handed over Kampuchea Krom to Vietnam and not us? Why French made more development in Vietnam, even French in Cambodia employed Vietnam to work with them at time, why????you both work under same boss, but boss like one more than other, why? If you did not wake up, you can change it, finally just dream.

Thank you for the warning. It would be great if you could provide us with what he really said.

And from some of the posts Mr. Sourn Serei Ratha wrote in other forum, it seems to me that he needs more education. Simply, he needs to learn English and get a real job.

What is he? He appears to associates himself with former members of Khmer Republic. What do they stand for? They stand for hating Sdach. Well, Sdach has no power now. He does rule but simply reigns. Don't waste your time with that.

What is his economic plan? I have not heard.

What is his plan to make government more efficient? Before getting Kampuchea Krom and Koh Tral, he may need a plan to provide basic needs to Khmer people first.

What is his plan to deal with members of current government? I would love to hear his transitional plan (It will be along time – even SRP and Human Rights Party could not muster enough support to gain a simple majority- and they have a lot of support inside).

What is his budget plan for the country? This one is going to be fun given the fact that he has not have a real job in his life. Has he done a family budget before?

One can go on and on about this young man. Does he know that people’s lives are at risk here? Politics is not a game.

In Cambodia, politics are very a dangerous game - if you lose, you're dead.

From reading his numerous writing/statements, I think Serey Ratha is neither ready nor qualified to run any political party, at least for now.

I do admire his passion for the country though, and I would advise him to slow down a bit and learn to make a calculated decision, and more importantly stop putting himself in the spotlight for something he's not prepared for. It's only make him look bad.

Khmer people oversea would like to know: Who is he? What is his background? What is his family line? What is his responsibility? What is his liability? What is his communication among Khmer people or abroad? How the way he talks,he walks, his attitude, and his speech? And also about his health, his activity, and political, potential manners ?All these how to pick a leader.

In addition, we must concentrate on rule of law, because only rule of law can take Cambodia into another level of expectation. Rule of law helps us to walk, drive and navigate according to plans like a sailor needs his Compass while at the High Sea. Only rule of law can truely change Cambodia into the directions everyone wants. Look at Thailand for example, they know what they. In 1915, Siam decided to follow the West and thus they have chosen America and British as their Compass and guidance. The King and I should have explained that better than anything that has ever written for all Siamese. Once the Siamese have decided on what they want they will never look back, and we can see the result of the present time...they have outgrew Cambodia when it comes to success and being established. Having said that, Cambodia ought to do the same thing. As a nation, we must pick a model, the best model there is in the world t use it as guidance and compassing our hardest time and made it to a greater and better place for all. In the end...no one is stopping us from growing, but ourselves. Democracy is there for us to grasp, rule of law is there for us to be written, models are there for us to follow. The question is...when will we say enough is enough and this is the time to rise up to the challenges. WE CAN DO IT. NO MORE EXCUSES.

I thank you.

I stop listen KP for a while since I heard the stingy barking from Sourn Serey Ratha? I don't think this guy will go far as he 's so arrogant about solving khmer issues. I don't know if he awares or smells anything from Cambodia that they are reviewing his case to see if he can be deported for insulting the khmer constitution
and the king? This is not laughing matter. Those who join him should rethink about this. As khmer you can sign petition that he posts in KP but as a member of his organization your are responsible of your act infront of Cambodian constitution.

Everage khmer love this guy for good at slandering other but intellecutal never bother to listen to him. What's he credential? I hate to say that this type of person is so dangerous to our democratic process. Listen to his interviewed or answer readers questions his tone dishonest, angry toward khmers seldomly that he target khmer's enemy.

so, you like Ah Hun Zen. Only YUON and Ah Puok Kbotcheat. He can go long or short it is Khmer responsiblity. It's not him alone. He is no owner of the land. All of us, why blame him. Do it!!!

Hun Zen is the one who destroys the country; not Serey Ratha. He gets mad for serving the country; but it is far better than people like you get BAD for the country.
