Race to the Top - EDUCATION

Let's also remember that after parents, the biggest impact on a child's success comes from the man or woman at the front of the classroom. In South Korea, teachers are known as "nation builders." Here in America, it's time we treated the people who educate our children with the same level of respect. We want to reward good teachers and stop making excuses for bad ones. And over the next ten years, with so many Baby Boomers retiring from our classrooms, we want to prepare 100,000 new teachers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.

- President Barack Obama, 2nd State of the Union Address

When it comes to education in America, we blame each other for not doing a good job on educating our children. I beleive there is nothing wrong with teachers, the students or their parents. It is our society as a whole that makes education downward. Too much freedom, too much violence, less effort, low moral of students, no rerspect of teachers and so on. We babysit our children too long in K-12 school. Teachers hardly make a living on their low-pay salary. Production assemblers make more money than teachers.

Americans cannot compare their education system to those of Korea or Russian because the latter work way harder than Americans. Here, in America, teachers can't put pressure on students to work harder, if they do, in some case, they can be blamed by their supervisors or parents. Some times teachers are afraid of their students because parents can sue them. Most students are very disrespectful to teachers or principal.

The government put more pressure on teachers to do their job better and dare not to say nothing to the parents. Some children are beyond control, They come to school unprepared. These students are very costly to educate. Some times teachers have to babysit them; sometimes principal take a whole day to take care of them. Everything is the game of politics in America.
