CantonRep.com staff report (Canton, Ohio, USA)
In observation of Women’s History Month, Stark State College will host Kim Chhay, a survivor of the killing fields of Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge regime, fueled by leader Pol Pot, took the lives Chhay’s father, sisters, brothers and other family members in a death camp.
Chhay, now a Stark State multicultural student affairs advisor, will recount the experiences she had as a young child in Cambodia from 1975-1979, her flight to a refugee camp and eventually her relocation in the U.S.
From 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Chhay will share her stories in the Room S204/205 at the college, the presentation “dedicated to all women in the world who sacrifice for their families and communities.”
Other Women’s History Month events include: a brown bag lunch at noon in Room S201; a presentation by private consultant Gwendolyn Goldsby Grant, who will speak about women’s issues, and talks by area women and professional leaders at noon March 31 in Rooms S204-205.
The school is located at 6200 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township.
