FORMER Khmer Rouge navy commander Meas Muth has hit back at allegations by local activist Theary Seng, who filed a complaint against him at Cambodia's war crimes tribunal this week, denying that he was involved in KR atrocities.

On Monday, Theary Seng, president of the Civicus Centre for Cambodian Education, filed a civil party application with the tribunal targeted at Meas Muth and former Khmer Rouge air force commander Sou Met, claiming the two are suspects in the court's pending third and fourth cases.

Prosecutors have proposed five suspects for investigation in these cases, which are still in the preliminary stage. The identities of these people remain confidential, though Meas Muth and Sou Met have long been suggested as likely suspects for the court.

Meas Muth said yesterday, however, that he was not concerned about Theary Seng's allegations or a potential case against him because he had "made no mistakes".

"I was never involved with arrests or killings. If you ask me about fighting and shooting, I know that well and can talk about it," he said.

"I see that she is trying to accuse me because she wants to make money from it. It is her business to do this."

Theary Seng said yesterday that she had collected enough evidence to support her claim that Meas Muth and Sou Met had contributed to the deaths of her parents by helping to formulate the policy of mass arrests and executions implemented under Democratic Kampuchea.

"It's not surprising that Mr Meas Muth should claim ignorance and should claim innocence, because the charges lodged against him are very grave and would have very serious consequences should a legitimate court and a legitimate trial move forward," she said.

Tribunal officials have reacted angrily to Theary Seng's civil party application, the first lodged in relation to the court's controversial third and fourth cases. United Nations court spokesman Lars Olsen called it a "reckless act which shows complete disregard for judicial due process and principles of law".

Theary Seng said yesterday that Olsen's comments were "incredibly misleading" and "highly offensive".

"It makes me wonder whether the UN is really giving up on this case, whether they too have succumbed to political influence," she said.

Prime Minister Hun Sen and other officials have expressed opposition to Cases 003 and 004, claiming they are a threat to the Kingdom's stability.

There is a very difference between Theary's involvement and CPP's involvment.

Theary's involvement seems to be an effort to keep the balls rolling and the spot and pressure on the tribunal to do their cases or get publicly scolded in a legally speaking way.

The CPP's involvement is to end the process as soon as possible so no one will know about it and no truths gets uncover.

Frankly I am glad Ms. Theary is doing all this while others just seat happily by and wait for the tribunal to fade.

they are still under investigation so the court is keeping it a secret.

Hun Sen do not want to Khmer Rough to come out because they will tell a different story that he don't want you to hear. And that is, they were fighting to keep Vietnamese out, fighting against an imperialistic power. They fought for the survival of our nation. When they come out, they will point out plainly the fact of puppetry of Cambodian government by Vietnam... This Hun Sen do not want Khmer to hear out loud from the Khmer Rough.

The truth is the truth;no one can escape from the truth.
If anyone did the right thing,s/he later on the good deed or evil deed will come out and show to the public.
In case that Meas Muth and Sou Met did not get involved killing Khmer in
Pol Pot regime, they'll be free in this case.
Hun Sen has not to talk or say anything about the International Court because he is out of IC business.Let the International Court do their jobs.
If Hun Sen gets involved in the International Court, maybe he was one of them who killed Khmer people in Pol Pot era.
Meas Muth and Sou Met will be suspects in the court or not, wait and see; not Theary business, but
the International Court business.

how could he denies it? during the stupid KR regime, if you are one of the top leadership, of course, you are responsible to some degree of what happened in cambodia, you know!

Without Yuon there would be no Khmer Rouge regime. I thought the KR trial would link to Yuon, but Yuon use the KR trial forum to sue the KR instead. And now Theary Seng become another Yuon. After all Yuon still win and Khmer people still lose. Yuon have succeeded killing Khmer and using Khmer to kill Khmer without being known. Disgraced Khmer leaders! disgraced CPP!

Yuon, Chin and Khmer rouge leaders and King Sihanouk are all the killers of Khmer people. The court should bring all those communist leaders to court for justice. The bottom line is Whoever involved in setting up the Khmer rouge regime and supportting it, Must responsible for the killing as a consequences from that regime. If no one like Seng theary speaks up, the CPP will try all means to cause the delay and failure of the tribunal court because Lots of big guys in CPP were among the KR and carried out the killing, following Angkar's command from upstair. "AngKar=YUON" in KR time. In Hun Sen's regime,
"THNakLER= YUON"
