KAMPOT PROVINCE, Kingdom of Cambodia — More than 40 Marines and sailors from 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, provided medical and dental aid to more than 2,700 Cambodian citizens during the combined Medical Civic Action Program at the Chumkiri Secondary School here June 17-19.
The program is part of the Cambodia Interoperability Program 2011, a frequently-held exercise between the U.S. and Royal Cambodian Armed Forces that allows both nations to conduct medical and dental operations, improve interoperability by working together and fosters goodwill to ensure regional peace and stability.
“The mission was to build interoperability by providing aid to the people of Cambodia; so I believe all will consider this phase of our mission a success,” said Navy Lt. Jeff C. Hertz, officer-in-charge of operations for 3rd Med. Bn.
The sailors and Marines worked alongside RCAF medical personnel each day to provide medical and dental care to locals during the MEDCAP. Local residents received medical assistance, including medical consultation in pediatrics, reproductive health, optometry and surgical consultation.
“This is the first time our battalion has ever had a surgery team come along and participate in a MEDCAP,” said Hertz. “This opportunity has provided great training for our surgical personnel and has allowed patients to receive a service not offered within their community.”
Hua Hon, a Cambodian citizen, was very happy with the services provided. Hon’s son has suffered from coughs and night fevers ever since he was born, but his condition has never been officially diagnosed.
“I was happy to stand in line because I got to see American doctors before they left our village, and receive some medicine for my son,” said Hon.
Local residents were not the only ones grateful for CIP ‘11.
“I am very appreciative for clinic services the U.S. and Cambodian military provided here for the people. It is very important for their health,” said Kill Ratapon, the district governor for Chumriki. “I hope that our two countries will continue to work together and come here again in the future.”

God Buddha bless Cambodia and the United State of America.
Those riches, should spend their money on improving the health care instead of planing rubber.
thank you american military for your humanitarian assistance to the khmer people of cambodia.
i like to see america establish a va hospital in cambodia so retired veterans can choose to live in cambodia if they want.
Hello, Mr. trator dog Phay Siphan
I didn't know you read KI-Media too?
Do tell your Youn boss Sok An! You and your boss will meet each other in Hell soon.
Cheer...
Yes, 8:19 I agreed with you! Those rich Khmer should help the poor that live around them. I am wondering whether their eyes can see those needs? Now I understand as to why the Khmer Rouge killed the rich people when they control Cambodia between 1975-1979. Those rich people were heartless, have so shame, and lack of campassion. As one song was singing during KR time -- it said that the doctors would not take care the sick unless ,under the Lon Nal's regime, they have money, while the Ankar will provide all the medical to all the people need without discreamination of their status in the society...there go the Lon Nal's regime...how can the Lon Nal's regime were hate by the KR regime. Now again, as people who come to this space had mention that --there are a lot of old guards from the Lon Nal's regime that serve in the Hun's govt. Thus, is this the result of those old mentality that never die?
you don't help by giving food to them because they will go hungry again and again, instead you should by training them and provide good skills and education for them so they can in turn help themselves and their community, etc, ok!
9:27 am, yes, I agreed with that you need to teach men how to fishes rather than just give fishes in order to sustain their life and self sufficient. But according to the Maslow's theary, the basic need must come first before the people can move to the next level. Majority of the people in Cambodia are in the wishes cycle try to meed the basic need (food, shelter, etc..of course I wouldn't forget the sex - which are planty of that in the kingdom of wonder). So 9:27 am -- what is your first step that the Khmer govt. should do first (Macro. policy).
true, however, cambodia have passed the starving mode already, so the next level should be applied, if i may emphasize, training, education, skills, etc in order to leave a lasting legacy for khmer people generation to come. thank you.

Ok 9:52 am,
I greed with you on this as well, but at what percentage of the Khmer people are ready for the program that you have suggested? Just want to let you know that I just returned from Cambodia a few days a goes. There were a group a women who learn how to sew. Most of the women were finished 3 or 5 grade, but they are not able to do simple mutiplication and division (which is the basic math needed in order to learn how sew). Thus, give this kind of education that Khmer people have recieve -- how are they ready for training in the value add industries or turn themselves into human capital. 9:52am - have you been on the ground with Cambodia people that out side of Phnom Penh? As you well know that 80% plus of Khmer population still live in rural area! And their life is getting harder due to food price rise and static income that they earn.
i think some people lack the opportunity to study or lack the study material not available in the area where they live, etc. what we can educate them is the importance of getting a basic education, then when opportunity open, they can apply to higher education, etc... sometimes, it is the society that do not see education as importance because they job is just farming or growing other crops which doesn't require education, however, it they were to work in an industry or in healthcare, or in manufacturing, etc, etc, then we have to educate them to understand that knowing basic math and basic reading and and writing skills is essential in getting the job, etc... i think there ought to be a change in the way people in rural area of distant villages, etc think about education. of course, not everybody can work in the manufacturing, etc as it is good to have diversified economies as laborers, skilled technicians, professional skills, etc, etc. i mean, not everybody can be a doctor, lawyer, etc, etc, really! so, i think people can be trained to fit their jobs, one has to be patient and loving and caring, though. and don't forget to teach them about self-discipline as well. one important aspect is to teach them to see from many angles, to think for themselves and to be inquisitive, etc, etc. it's called being smart. i think people will change themselves once they have hope, once they see the need to change or enhance their skill level, etc... so, please keep on encouraging these people, they all needed help desparately for sure. thank you all for helping to make a difference, and in turn, you too can feel proud of your achievement and legacy you left behind for these people. god bless all.
people got to have ambition or set a goal in order for them to move forward in life; so, ask them what is their ambition in life, then from there, you can help guide them as a counsel would, really!
Why doesn't Hun Sen talk about the treaties from 1979-1985 that result over 30 000 km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam ? Why does Hun Sen only using 4.6 km2 as an excuse in order to redirect attention from Vietnam invasion and it is not just small invasion but over 30 000 km2 of cambodia.
In Hun Sen political career 4.6km2 is much begger than over 30 000km2. He gave over 30 000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam with his two hands.
10:40 am, I definitly agreed with that they need to have opportunity! But as you are looking at how economic growth in the country ... it is not there! Please don't just look at GDP as an indicator for the well being of all the people. Govt. does not creat job ( so call the value added job). If you look at govt. staff, some there were at least 3 people sit at one desk (a lot of them moom lighting). A lot of young graduate hope to get govt. job to get into their klent. Event the one I met, which I consider a good people, but eventually they resum to give in -- in order to get to the school they want. Corruption and bribe the teachers since they are first grade---this eventually become a norm. Ha! 10:40, we need to privoritize of what the country should put their resources to work first ... otherwise, Cambodia are so far behind even the Vietnamese (that our ancestor enermy). In fact, as you read reasonly, about ASEAN integration, the Cambodian is not ready to take advantage of 2015 fully integrate within the region. Thus, is Khmer people going to be just being a slave to the region?
Selfsupporting, independent, sovereingty ...these will never happen under Hun Sen regime. They have no political will to make peace and security in Cambodia.
Youn Hun Sen is using 4.6 km2 as an excuse he is still a Khmer which he is not.
