The shooting incident involving a Thai military helicopter near Cambodia would not have any impact on the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, national army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha said Monday.
He said the GBC meeting and the helicopter shooting incident are two separate issues.
"The two sides would be able to discuss and settle the incident and it's normal for neighbouring countries to encounter this kind of problem," Gen Prayuth said.
The Thai navy will be responsible for handling the helicopter shooting, he said.
Cambodian troops on Thursday, Dec 15, opened fire at the navy Bell 121 helicopter delivering relief supplies near the border. The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in Trat province, but no one was hurt.
On security measures during the New Year, the army chief said he believed that police could maintain peace order and there would be no need to enforce special security laws.
He said the discovery of six home-made bombs at three spots in eastern Bangkok early Friday morning, Dec 16, is a reminder for people from all sides to help authorities keep a close watch in their areas, he said.
"There have been no reports of potential unrest and it's not necessary to invoke any special security laws during the New Year," Gen Prayuth said.

As Thai people and army are never stop or drop off to invade on Cambodia territory. If Cambodia intend to keep our current land borders, Cambodia has to build up thick fence along Thai and Vietnam borders as soon as like Mohakompheng Chin.
Other wise the problem will never end from these two invasive countries. If Cambodia country itself doesn't want to see this country get smaller and smaller from a year to year.
Say no to Prayuth Chan-ocha! This guy should not allow to step on Khmer soil.
AH Siem military thugs always behave so thuggish and unreasonable because for one reason and they knew that as long as Uncle SAM still station American military in Thailand and all the Siem military thuggish leaders are immune to persecution from all evil act against humanity!
