PREAH SIHANOUK, Cambodia, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Saturday organized a number of sports and entertainment events on Ochheuteal beach in Preah Sihanouk province to celebrate Sea Festival and New Year Countdown.
The celebration was presided over by Cambodia's Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, aimed at promoting the potential tourism of the coastline after it has been registered as the member of the club of the most beautiful bays in the world in May, 2011 and to create joyful opportunity for the tourists on the occasion of New Year 2012.
"Through the events, we encourage people to love environment and coastline," said Thong Khon, estimating that some 50,000 national and international tourists have been taking part in the events.
The Saturday morning's sport events included swimming, aquabike racing, beach volleyball, half-marathon, and Cambodian traditional martial arts, said the minister, adding that in the afternoon until the New Year Countdown at midnight, there would be live-concert, fashion show, musical entertainment, Khmer traditional kick-boxing, firework, food festival and tourism product exhibition.
The events were jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), the authorities of Preah Sihanouk province and tourism-related business operators.
Preah Sihanouk is situated some 230 kilometers southwest of Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh.
