The defence team of Brother No 2 Nuon Chea continued in its attempts to link National Assembly president Heng Samrin to its client, and, by extension, the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime, during yesterday’s Khmer Rouge tribunal.
Despite a brief showdown between Trial Chamber president Nil Nonn and defence counsel Michiel Pestman, when Pestman refused to be seated as ordered, Nil Nonn granted the lawyer 30 minutes to interview his client. That right was taken away from Pestman on Wednesday after the chamber president ruled that Pestman had disrespected the bench.
The defence lawyer used his re-allotted time to ask questions about Nuon Chea’s relationship with the future CPP chairman.
The defendant said he had first met Heng Samrin some time in 1959 when he was tasked with serving as Nuon Chea’s escort to Vietnam. “He was close to me and he was rather courageous. He provided me with protection,” Nuon Chea said, adding that such trips, “sometimes once every two months”, up until the country was “liberated” in 1975.
Pestman was rebuffed, however, in his attempt to ask Nuon Chea about the role played by the senior CPP lawmaker in the liberation of Phnom Penh.
“Is it correct that Heng Samrin was a division commander in April 1975 and that he participated in the liberation of Phnom Penh?” Pestman asked.
“Nuon Chea, you may not respond to the question since it is ruled irrelevant,” chamber president Nil Nonn interjected.
Yesterday’s attempt was the second time this week that Nuon Chea’s defence team has tried to link its client to senior CPP lawmakers. On Monday, defence counsel Jasper Pauw produced an academic article, which stated that “various evidence implicates Heng Samrin in war crimes” and that “Chea Sim has been accused of being responsible for the murders of people in the district in which he was secretary”.
Also during yesterday’s proceedings, co-prosecutors attempted to disprove Nuon Chea’s consistent assertions that he never held the position of acting prime minister of Democratic Kampuchea.
Co-prosecutors produced a speech made on the 9th anniversary of the founding of the Revolutionary Army of Kampuchea that two international media outlets attributed to “acting premier” Nuon Chea.
Prosecutors said that, next week, they will introduce “numerous documents” showing “congratulatory messages” to Nuon Chea on his ascent to the premiership, as well as documents he signed as “acting premier”.

-1st Viets started their revolution vs. French (the ruler of Indochinese states)in Japan led by Pham Boi Chau and Dong Du, then Japan kicked the Viets out. Pham Boi Chau left to Thailand alone w/o Dong Du. Thais supported Pham Boi Chau so there were so many Viets migrated into Thailand. Their movement started to recruit Khmer & Laotians to join them to fight French, but Viet/Thai wanted to take Cambodia & Laos for themselves. When Viets knew that Thais wanted the same, the Viets broke away from Thais then they started to create a new path:Communist, that's the time they recruited Khmer Rouge.
-2nd, Ho Chi Minh sold Pham Boi Chau to French and started his own game to take Cambodia & Laos by the helps from Soviet (URSS) and China. To take South Ho Chi Minh needed a heavily supports from China (money and weapons) so he & Pham Van Dong secretly sold two islands: Paracel & Spratly to China to just take South (united Vietnam).
Vietnam has not WON anything, it was China who won after Kissinger told Zhou Enlai to take South Vietnam. China is using Vietnam to engage with the west such as the US, the same as China using North Korea to cause trouble against the west.
Instead of taking South Vietnam China preferred to take Paracel and Spratly islands to keep as bases of their massive army to watch over the US navy ships. If China took South Vietnam, it will be the problem with Cambodians, because South Vietnam was Cambodian land, and China does not want to make enemy with Sihanouk who helped China to seat at the UN (Sihanouk spied for China).
Furthermore, Soviet (USRR) collapsed because the US & China worked together to boot the Soviet out, so it left only two: US vs. China.
How the Soviet was kicked out from Southeast Asia from helping Vietnam? Jimmy Carter met with Deng (Chinese leader) in the White house and agreed to make a play by invading Vietnam for a short period. It was a warning to the Soviet that "Look I can kill your servant (Vietnam) anytime with or w/o your supporting Vietnam. The invasion of Vietnam for a short period was not about KR Pol Pot but about to kick Soviet out from Southeast Asia.
China can take Vietnam anytime, but why China does not take? Keeping Vietnam to do business with the US, and to terrorize Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, then China gets all the profits.
Heng Xamrin's wife is Vietnamese. She and her thousand Vietnamese entered Cambodia before 1975. The Viets lived among Khmer Rouge and speak fluently Khmers and acted like Khmers.
Don't let her face and her dress fool you, she is a pure blood Viet Cong.

Khmer people if you all know Heng Samrin is a Khmer Rouge why let him and still in power. Yall need to kill this no person. or stop crying Foreigner can start the war for you. Srok or Kun Khmer in Cambodia need to step up and Stop blaming other country for the country issued. Start clean out the mess and move on and do the Khmer people way.
i think everyone was ignorant and deceptive back then, they all seemed to join the call from sihanouk, the revengeful and hatred prince of red, then; actually, the prince of many colors or the mercurial prince. sihanouk wasn't all bad, though, in the beginning, he was good for cambodia, but after he was ousted from power due to his failed foreign policy, etc, he become vengeful and used his hatred to destroy cambodia and those who didn't support him. so, a lot of people, like heng samrin, etc heaped the call of sihanouk to join the KR to fight the then corrupted lon nol regime, but later, it was the stupid KR who did the most destruction in cambodia like killing its own people, etc, you see! i think more than anything else, it was people's ignorance or naivety that led them to do what they did then, you know. however, now, it is totally different as those individuals were wised and educated since then, you know. of course, after 30 plus year, they all had to be better educated by now, you know. anyway..., thank god, that was all history now. may god bless cambodia and all our beautiful khmer people and citizens for the new cambodia and new era of peace and prosperity in cambodia. god bless all of us, we needed god to be on our side, really!

Most of Cambodian know that all Khmer Viet Minh were created by yuon Viet Minh to fight against French colony in Camgodia between 1940s-1954.
Heng Samrin a former cattles thief then become Khmer Viet Minh and then became Khmer Rouge between 1975-1978.
Heng Samrin was a military commander of Hun Sen and So Phim also a military commander of Heng Sarin between 1975-1978.
i think not all KR soldiers were bad at that time, of course some were, but not all. you have to keep in mind and be fair and unbiased when talk about this controversial topic such as the KR because at that time, cambodia was having a civil war, meaning they kill each other. again, that was then, even sihanouk, kissinger, siem, youn, etc were all involved in the conflict in cambodia that led up to the KR brutality. i mean, i hate to sound like i favor the KR, i'm not, but i just want all of us to think logically about that time, that's all. that said, of course, what the KR did in terms of killing its own people and destroying the country or failing to rebuild the country was unacceptable by any means. so, the ones who were the most responsible must be brought to justice, really.
