Radio France Internationale (RFI) reported on 11 March 2012 that 2 senate positions were filled by king Sihamoni. The two octogenarian men selected by the king are: (1) Oum Mannorine and (2) Ieu Pannakar. In addition to being cronies of his father, ex-king Sihanouk, the two men are also related to the king's mother, Queen Monineath Sihanouk (née Monique Izzi). Oum Mannorine is the queen's half brother, and Ieu Pannakar married Oum Sophanith, the queen's half sister and the sister of Oum Mannorine.
The selection of the two octogenarian men by the king clearly means that the Cambodian Senate is nothing more than a rubber institution that does not fulfill any significant role in Cambodia. Furthermore, it also shows that the king has no trust in anyone except people in his family circle.
All well's is NOT TOO well in the kingdom plagued with CRONYISM and FAMILY FAVORITISM. Cronyism is practiced by the CPP leaders and gladly copied (or is it vice-versa?) by the king and his entourage.

i told you, it's not unique to just the present administration, in the past regime, too, it was all in the family. so, i wouldn't be too hypocritical about anyone else becaause all are the same way e.g. nepotism, favoritism, cronyism, fraternism, etc..., you see. they all set example for others to follow, it's about trust and family loyalty, i guess! and stop saying only about hun sen, it's everybody in cambodia this way, you know. why bother to pick only one or two individuals while everybody else is doing just that? plus, i don't think it's unique to only cambodia either, it's in every gov't institution all over the world, you know!

(Duch) à la place du nom réel (Kaing Gueak Eav ) le chief prison de Tuol Sleng. Le nom (Duch) n'etait pas le nom révolutionnaire comme on le croit mais plutôt pour cacher la vérité.
L'Organisation Khmer Rouge (Angkar-leu អង្គការលើ) a amplifié et publié le faux nom (Duch) comme le bouc émissaire pour blanchir leur crime contre de l'humanité.

Khmer had been split, splashed and crushed by the Viet, the Chinese, the Thais, and Sihanouk the so-called King Father, himself. Need we say more?

How could Khmer have gotten into such a mess in the first place???
It is to be expected and yet I am still surprised that the chooser can do such an unspeakably foolish thing. Sihamoni has chosen to provide a very bad example for the country and has readily joined the gang of CPP in nominating his own people for the jobs.

The two chosen guys are old and are at least slightly demented and the chooser makes it look like he could not find young Cambodians with better ideas and qualifications for the jobs.
Having only trust in old farts who are related to him and members of his family, Sihamoni shows without a realization that his institution's day, is being numbered. In fact, this institution has lost all the respect among ordinary Cambodians. It is alive, but meaningless.
The old farts need some fame; otherwise, life is no longer worth living though they have reasonably amount of money.
