“We were mistaken, and we have to discover the mistakes regarding our own people and apologize for them.”
Jailed Khmer Rouge leader Nuon Chea on Tuesday sought to discredit testimony given to the UN-backed tribunal by his subordinate, the convicted torture chief Duch, who is in court this week to testify against three regime leaders on trial for atrocity crimes.
Duch has helped prosecutors outline the administrative structures and polices of the regime and on Tuesday encouraged leaders Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan and Ieng Sary to confess to crimes and apologize to the victims of the Khmer Rouge.
Given a chance for rebuttal, Nuon Chea said Duch was “valueless” as a witness. “We never take decayed wood, rotten wood, spoiled wood to carve out a Buddha,” he said.
During testimony Tuesday, Duch admitted he was “not clear” on the policymaking of the regime, but he said he did not believe that anyone below undersecretary would have made policies.
Nuon Chea was the regime’s leading ideologue, Khieu Samphan its nominal head of state and Ieng Sary its foreign minister. All three held top positions within party ranks.
“We were mistaken, and we have to discover the mistakes regarding our own people and apologize for them,” said Duch, who told the court that the communist party of the Khmer Rouge established policies of killing prisoners, starvation and forced deportation.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Nuon Chea wrote to the prosecution and other lead lawyers saying he was concerned about an eventual attempt on his life by Duch within the tribunal’s facility. Nuon Chea requested in a March 7 letter that his cell be locked to prevent such an attempt.

Especially for AH Duch his life over and he will sit and rotten in prison! So what is the point for him to point finger at his boss Noun Chea? Come on AH Duch, you don't have to give Cambodian people a bad name and reputation!

Kaing Guek Eav was set up as "DUCH" and Kaing Guek Eav is so stupid. Everything this killer Kaing Guek Eav said was not reliable and did not know what he was talking about and confused.
Kaing Guek Eav does not know that the secret Vietnamese agents (who could write and speak Khmer/Cambodian language so well) hiding among Khmer Rouges uniforms during Killing Fields in Cambodia involved the murders and extermination of the Khmer people with higher educations.
There were the hidden Vietnamese faces inside Khmer Rouges have dismantled communications between Cambodia and the world, big gaps or disconnection between Pol Pot,Noun Chea, Ieng Sary, Khiev Saphan, Sihanouk, and other top Khmer Rouges leaders (who were not secret Vietnamese agents like Hor Nam Hong, etc).
When Hor Nam Hong was the Khmer Rouges Prison Chief, did Hor Nam Hong order Kaing Guek Eav to follow the procedures to torture and kill those innocent Khmer people and Children in S 21 Prison "Toul Sleng"?
Kaing Guek Eav had no ideas of who secretly ordered the killing of innocent Khmer people during Khmer Rouges regime. There were the messages between secret Angkar Luer/Cap Tren and secret Vietnamese agents from Hanoi hiding among Khmer Rouges uniforms that lies and spread propaganda without Nuon Chea, Pot Pot, Khiev Sapham, Ieng Sary,etc., being there.
So, what the heck was Kaing Guek Eav talking about?
Nuon Chea, Khiev Saphan, & Ieng Sary told the truth that Vietnamese agents are the real Killers hiding among the Khmer Rouges including Khmer Vietminh (like Heng Samrin, Chea Sim, etc) and Vietminh.
Most of kids were set up as Khmer Rouges soldiers and armies and brainwashed by Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam Training Camp. Those Khmer Rouges kids did not know anything and were just cruel against their own parents, friends, and neighbors. Those kids were trained to be so violent as you seen in Killing Fields Video (real films) showing how those brainwashed Khmer Rouges kids were ordered by secret Vietnamese agents from Hanoi to shoot the innocent Khmer people in Phnom Penh and outskirts of Phnom Penh.
Pol Pot was toppled by the secret Vietnamese agents (who pretended Khmer Rouges bodyguards) in Phnom Penh. The real Khmer Rouges of Pol Pot were very busy fighting against the South Vietnam in order to get lower Cambodia/Khmer Krom (today South Vietnam and Saigon/Ho Chi Minh) back.
The communication had been lost or disconnected between Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouges soldiers and Khmer Rouges High Ranking Members like Noun Chea, Khiev Saphan, etc.
That was why there were many hidden Vietnamese agents (Vietcong, NVA, etc) among Khmer Rouges.
Before the UN planned to visit Cambodia in 1978, the invasion of Vietnam was set up on purpose. The invasion of Vietnam into Cambodia was so quick in two weeks and covered the real Vietnamese killers during Killing Fields who murdered millions of innocent Khmer people. So, the secret Vietnamese agents and master-minded leaders from Hanoi were clever to pretend to rescue innocent Khmer people from Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouges soldiers.
Now, Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi are clever and dirty to use the Killers Khmer Rouges as scapegoats in the blind eyes of International Communities and UN.
Yes, many Khmer survivors and victims of Killing Fields and had seen their own eyes and heard that killers were Vietnamese agents and leaders from Hanoi who have had ill-intentions to take Cambodian land in the secret way until presents. Right now, Vietnamese masters in Hanoi have switched their secret plans to swallow Cambodia country in the other way like doing step by step as slow move after the Killing Fields.
This killer Kaing Guek Eav has started to be flip-flopped and naive. The Asian girl and guys behind the Asian lawyer in purple gown who asked Kaing Guek Eav the questions, were giggling and smiling. Wonder why???

We Khmer people like him because he told the truth about how the Killing Fields started and was involved. And, he told the truth about who were behind the Killing Fields that killed millions of innocent Khmer people with higher educations including the innocent Khmer children.

I agree. Comrade Hor Nam Hong also had the role as the Chief prison officer in charge of the camp killings, why isnt he sitting in the KRT facing life in prison?
Why are him and his two sons, who currently sits in the government as ambassador are still not being investigated. There are plenty of evidence, even losing a defamation case in France when Sam Rainsy also accuses him so.
Even if everything is true what Duch ist telling, there is a huge gap between 14,000 victims in S21 who where "enemies of the revolution" or "Vietnam Agents" and the 1,700,000 Khmer victims over all.
How to close this huge gap?
Why the real Khmer Rouge leader Norodom Sihanouk aka ( SDACH PEAL ស្ដាចន៍ពាល) did not attend at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal?
