Relatives of a factory worker who was injured in an incident at a garment factory claimed that a group of officials from the Bavet city hall asked the village chief to contact them. The village chief would provide $1,000 to the injured worker and he asked her not to sue Chhouk Bandit, the Bavet mayor. Chhouk Bandit is accused of shooting and seriously injuring 3 factory workers during a protest held on 20 February 2012 in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province. The Svay Rieng provincial court issued a summons for the fugitive Chhouk Bandit, calling him to come to court to clarify the case on 16 March.

The older brother of the injured worker indicated today that this morning, the village chief contacted the family and he promised to provide $1,000 to the worker in exchange for a thumbprint on a promise not to sue in this shooting case.

However, Sam Sinat, the older brother of Buot Chinda, the injure worker, rejected the offer and he said that the authority should not value a life at $1,000. A human life is not the same as an animal life, he said. The family of Buot Chinda refused to accept the offer.

Sam Sinat indicated that he is concerned about the safety of his sister and his family because the authority are circling their house located in Bavet city, next the Vietnamese border.

Human rights activists indicated that compensations must be provided to the injured workers, however, lawsuit against the culprit in this criminal case must be considered by the court which should arrest Chhouk Bandit and bring him to face justice.

if that's against one's principle, than by all means, refuse the offer and have evidence or witness to present it to the court. know how to work it out, instead of being ineffective about it the whole time. look for support on that issue and use the judicial system to work it out. shouldn't be about politics, it's about doing the right thing. and if one has no confidence in the khmer court system, that's another issue altogether that probably required a call for judicial reforms, etc, ok! my point is learn to solve the problem amicably or civilly because that is more effective and in par with the rule of law, etc... yes, encourage and embrace the rule of law in cambodia. it may be the beginning, but you must contribute to changes and making a difference if you are to be a responsible good citizens. we all can do our part to help to make, a real, lasting difference for cambodia once and for all, you know. so stop being evil and self and greedy and too political about it. learn to solve problem not adding more fuel to the fire, ok!

Let shoot one of his family, and ask him what he think.

If he loves his family members, and so do all of other people IN THE WORLD.

Arrest this guy and hang him just to make this short.

Well done!!

I know $1000 is a lot of money especially since your wages are only $60 a month. But PLEASE stand on your ground, we must fight against CPP and AH HUN SEN Officials!!

AH Khmer killer must face crimminal conviction. After he is punished in the crimminal court, you can then SUE him under CIVIL COURT for more money.

Dont let this go. He shot you to kill you.

Shoot this guy this times: one in the head, one in the stomach, and one in the penis. If he's still alive after the three shots, offer him $3001 dollars. The $3000 for the cost of the bullets and the $1 for the cost of his life. He is a dog so his life should be very cheap.

It looks like CPP politics is being played in the arrest of Bandit man. Mr Sar Keng came out clearly that Ah Bandit was the suspect; that set him apart from Hun Sen and Men Sam An of protecting the culprit. Apparently Hun Sen does not want Mr. Sar Keng to get the credit so he is discredit the arrest by using Men Sam An as a tool to hide Ah Bandit. We will see more to come... time will tell. I just can't understand they are willing to put the nation's interest at a loss trying to hide his man.
