4 Boeung Kak Lake (BKL) women among 15 detainees who are now imprisoned in Prey Sar jail have started their hunger strike in the morning of Sunday 10 June 2012.

BKL residents claimed that the four who are participating in the hunger strike are: Mrs. Tep Vanny, Mrs. Kong Chantha, Mrs. Chheng Leap and Mrs. Song Sreyleap.

13 BKL women were arrested by the cops on 22 May and the court sentenced them to 2-1/2 years of jail time by accusing them of illegal occupation of a real estate property belonging to a public entity and of opposition to public forces, all of which bear serious sentences. Two other BKL representatives were arrested on 24 May in front of the Phnom Penh municipal court when they were preparing documents to testify for the 13 who were arrested.

On 10 June, about 100 BKL residents, Borei Keila residents and NGO representatives, including children, have gathered in front of Prey Sar jail at Correction Center No. 2 to protest for the release of their 15 representatives who are jailed and to encourage them to be brave, strong and to stop their plans to commit suicide in jail.
