Cambodia recorded a trade deficit in equivalent to 1.1 billion US dollars in the first five months of this year, according to a report of the Commerce Ministry on Saturday.
During January-May period this year, the report showed that the country's total import and export value was 5.16 billion US dollars, up 17 percent from 4.41 billion US dollars at the same period in a year ago.
The imports jumped by 18 percent to 3.13 billion US dollars, while the exports rose by 15 percent to 2.03 billion US dollars, resulting in an trade deficit of 1.1 billion US dollars, it said.
Cambodia is heavily reliant on international trade. The country 's economy is supported by garment industry, tourism, agriculture and construction.
According to the report, the main products Cambodia exported include garments and footwear, rubber latex, milled rice and cassava. On the import side, the country shipped in products including garment and textile raw materials, petroleum, construction materials, automobiles and motorcycles, food and soft drinks, pharmaceutical products and cosmetics.
In the whole year 2011, the country's trade deficit was 1.73 billion US dollars. The main foreign trading partners with Cambodia are the United States, European countries, China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Canada.

what ever economic growth, gdp, infrastructure, all go to support a bunch of incapable puppets and their sycophants. verify and prove how much any of the "development" crap actually has had any positive impact on improving the lives of ordinary cambodian citizen. the hypocrite donors and the opportunistic investors are the ones reaping the political and financial on both the puppets' and the poor people of cambodia.
you can build a million schools or factories in the country, but if these cliques keep on controling the population by way of threat and intimidation, and by sharing the plunders via perpetual one-party nepotism, no son, nor daughter of the majority of cambodians will see any opportunity for themselves to be a part of any developed cambodia. just go out candidly and ask the young people of the country what are their hopes and aspirations.

throughout human history, cambodia as well, there's always a turning point like 07jan79. it's just a date to mark a turning point in one of cambodia's long history. it is good for people to remember or mark this date; however, it is political incorrect for them to worship their livelihood, their assets, etc over it. i mean, life goes on in cambodia and the world. why people have to swear by this controversial date whether liberation day or a new beginning date or invasion date or auspicious date or whatever they think, really? why worship it? noting it is enough, but i don't know about owing allegience to it, ok! stop being stupid, ignorant forever, ok! wake up already! life goes on, ok!
