Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been invited by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to travel to Cambodia on Friday to address a high-level U.S. business conference.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Surapong Tovichakchaikul said Yingluck had accepted the invitation to give a speech at the US-Asean Business Council conference in Siem Reap.

On her visit to Cambodia to attend the Asean Summit, Clinton is accompanied by U.S. entrepreneurs who will meet to discuss investments in the Asean region.

Yingluck will deliver a speech to the US-Asean Business Forum and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Asean connectivity and Thailand's economic plan after the flood, officials said.

She is scheduled to meet and have a bilateral discussion with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen prior to speaking to U.S. business representatives.

In the meeting with Hun Sen, the main agenda would be cooperation on a road connecting the border and Laos's Xayaburi dam, said a Thai spokesman.

The spokesman said allegations by the opposition Democrat Party that Yingluck would discuss a gas deal in the joint development area in the Gulf of Thailand with her Cambodian counterpart on Friday was not accurate.

A Thai official said Thailand and Cambodia would not be able to resume negotiation on the joint development area in the Gulf of Thailand, which is believed is be rich in petroleum resources, since the legal status of the 2001 memorandum of understanding was in doubt due to an announcement of denunciation made by the Democrats when they were in power.

The former Democrat government announced in late 2009 that it was scrapping the 2001 MOU on the maritime deal after a conflict with Phnom Penh over a visit of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. There are, however, doubts whether the denunciation was effective since the then government did not officially inform Phnom Penh of the move.

GREAT ! Yingluck will lure more US business to Thailand
( from Cambodia backyard ) , then there will be more job
opportunity there for Cambodians who will eventually cross
border to make ten time more money than what they get in
Cambodia , for same amount of time or same work load .
Wish Thai will treat Khmer reasonably , fairly good !

the US is smart, they won't be lured by her beauty so easily, you know. the US want to invest and do business in cambodia where it is new for them, they already have business and investors in thailand, so in reality, it's not about thailand, but about cambodia, really. let's hope the Us investors aren't bias, prejudice, discriminatory and ignorant toward cambodia anymore, you know. of course, there are more to cambodia than you and i, and cambodia have changed for the better, too, you know. it is great opportunity for the big US investors to come invest and do business in cambodia for a change as well, unless they are bias, prejudice, and discriminatory, then we know they all not being fair to cambodia. but i think america wanted to be partner and cooperation from cambodia in bilateral trade, etc, so they will have to invest and do business in cambodia, despite some of them have bias, prejudice and political discrimination toward cambodia in the old way. well, i hope this set a new stage or new era for the good relationship with cambodia and the US in the 21st century. i think america big businesses should come and help and train and invest in my country cambodia for a change because that way, america is helping cambodia to make a real, lasting difference for all. after all, there are more to cambodia than just some politics if you are smart and wise and enlightened and educated about cambodia, really. in the past, we know america invested a lot in the philipine, thailand and even singapore and taiwan, etc their old allies. but now, cambodia is a new america ally. of course, cambodia want to be america ally as well. why continue to hold grudges and be biased and prejudice and use politics to discriminate against cambodia forever. even cambodia has changed now. anybody can see that in cambodia when they come to cambodia. it is stupid and ignorant not to see that, really. may god bless cambodia and all our beautiful khmer people and citizens always.
