DO DONTREI, Cambodia - (AP) -- More than 100 people have attended a Buddhist ceremony honoring the dead in a freshly uncovered Khmer Rouge mass grave in rural Cambodia.

Buddhist monks led prayers and people came with offerings of food and drinks Thursday, five days after about 20 skulls and bone fragments were unearthed at the site of a former Khmer Rouge prison.

Village chief Chheng Theng said the offerings were meant to give sustenance to the souls of the dead "because we know they died hungry."

An estimated 1.7 million Cambodians died of torture, starvation, medical neglect, hard labor and execution during the Khmer Rouge's 1975-79 rule.

Historians and researchers say thousands of bodies could be buried at the site in northwestern Cambodia. It was one of nearly 200 Khmer Rouge prisons.

the KR were the stupidest regime in the world back then. they killed their own people and destroyed cambodia. so it can take a while for cambodia and khmer people to heal and reconcile from this painful shock and stun that took cambodia to the stone age and then back to modern civilization again. anyway, life does go on one generation replace by another generation as life evolves nonstop on earth and in a country called cambodia. it shows life is not forever, it always gets replaced by the next generation the next generation called the cycle of life, you know. get used to it, it's called life, ok!

Why asked? Don't you see how Hun Xen fights against Khmer Nationalists who protest against his Yuon's boss for illegal treaty. Hun Xen will kill Khmers for his Yuon.

Only hope the real Khmer Rouge Ideology and real nationalist movement will come back to protect all the Khmer people.
