Authorities in Stung Treng province have confiscated some 651 pieces of “luxury timber” from three communes in Se San district over the past week in an ongoing operation to crack down on illegal logging in the area, police said.
The goods were confiscated just as a local trader was preparing to export them, Orn Sam Ath, police chief of Se San district, said, but no arrests were made.
After the operation, police found an additional cache of timber sunken in a nearby canal, but officers could not recover all of it because of the water’s depth.
Sam Ath said 53 pieces were found in Talath, 393 in Srekor and 205 in Phdau.
Four homemade ploughs, likely used to carry the wood, were also taken in the raid.
The police chief did not specify what kind of timber was seized.
Reach Sokhon, Stung Treng police commissioner, said that authorities are collecting and transporting the timber to store at the provincial hall.

It had happened most of the cases : luxury ( expensive )
wood , when it is stored as evidence , will be swapped to cheap , low quality of wood . the provincial authority knows how to stage the theater for Hun Sen to see on TV ....and illegal logging will continue on and on and on ... as long as
the OKNHA LOGGERS donate money to CPP .
