The National Salvation Party, formed by a merger between the Sam Rainsy Party and the Human Rights Party, will register the party at the future home of its new headquarters in Sen Sok district’s Phnom Penh Thmey commune on Monday, party officials said yesterday.
Yim Sovann and Pol Ham, spokespersons for the SRP and HRP respectively, told the Post the NSP would hold a press conference to discuss its registration with the Ministry of Interior and its structure. Sovann added that Sam Rainsy, in exile abroad, would speak by video conference.
The location where the new NSP headquarters will be built belonged to Sam Sundoeun, a permanent committee member of the HRP, Ham said.
Sundoeun said that donating his lot on Street 1972 was a small sacrifice to help the party and ultimately his country.
“For the nation, I must give it over,” he said, adding that he had given the NSP the space for as long as the party needed it.
More than 80 members from the two parties would participate in Monday’s press conference, Pol Ham said, and seven committee members – Pol Ham, Sam Rainsy, Sun Chanthy, Sam Sundoeun, Ou Chanrath, Chea Sokuntheany and Suon Narith – will participate in the registry before it is sent to the Ministry of Interior for approval.
Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak declined to comment, saying he would wait until the NSP had delivered the registry.
