PHNOM PENH - Some 1,500 intellectuals from abroad perished under the Khmer Rouge, having moved back to the country at the request of the regime only to die or be killed, a witness told the UN-backed tribunal Wednesday.

Ong Thong Hoeung, 67, an economics student who left France for Cambodia in 1976, said only about 200 intellectuals who heeded the call for return survived.

“Some of them living in France sold houses, left their children and wives, expecting to help rebuild Cambodia,” he said. “I believed the Khmer Rouge.”

He was sent to the Boeung Trabek prison camp in Phnom Penh with other intellectuals, where many died.

Khmer Rouge Hor Nam Hong was also called to return to Khmer. But because Hor Nam Hong is a Youn, he was put in charge of gathering information of overseas khmer, thus in charge of killing everyone in the Boeung Trabek prison.

If what you claim is TRUE then he must be brought to justices but we must have clear evidences that he was Youn and involved of killing those poor nationalist high educated Khmers. Khmers had a bad habits if pointing fingers at other Khmers as Youn. This was one of the main reasons KR killed someone during Pol Pot time by painting someone as Youn.

We must bring everyone involved of KR genocide to trail, include King Father Norodom Sihanouk and top CPP leaderships. This task might be impossible to accomplish because CPP got a firm grips in power. This is just my opinion. At least King Father must tell all at the trial.
