On April 16, 2012, MP Son Chhay investigated complaints from NGOs and people living around Areng River (ស្ទឹងអារ៉ែង), in Koh Kong as the Government proposes to build a hydro dam on Areng River where thousand of hectares of beautiful trees and many protecting species will be affected. One week later, Chut Wutty (Khmer: ឈុត វុទ្ធី; died -- 26 April 2012) a Cambodian environmental activist was killed in the same area.
