Queen Mother said that the King Father [Sihanouk] waits for Samdech Prime Minister
Prime Minister Hun Sen said yesterday he believed that the February 4th cremation of King Father Norodom Sihanouk was a miracle, and noted that of all the participants who put a burning candle wick to the funeral pyre, only he was successful in lighting the fire.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony at Preah Sihamoni Reachea Buddhist University in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district yesterday, Hun Sen said that the attempts of the first four people – King Norodom
Sihamoni, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath and two chief monks – had failed because candles had gone out and portions of the pyre failed to ignite.
After they tried, Hun Sen said, he stepped in. The flames caught and spread.
The cremation of Sihanouk, who died last year at age 89, had begun.
The unexpected turn in the proceedings was unusual when compared with past cremations. Traditionally, it’s the successor, in this case King Sihamoni, who is responsible for lighting the fire. Sihanouk fulfilled this duty for the cremation of his own father, King Suramarit, in 1960.
Nhek Bunn Chhay, a member of the royal funeral committee, said the official government plan for the ceremony called for King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Monineath to light the flame.
Hun Sen explained the initial lack of fire as a kind of spiritual force of the departed Sihanouk, who, the premier said, wasn’t quite ready to bid farewell to his family.
“I have told the Queen Mother and King that he didn’t want to leave his children. Queen Mother said that the King Father [Sihanouk] waits for Samdech Prime Minister,” Hun Sen said. “This is due to a miracle of his power. It is not a technical problem.”
Independent political analyst Chea Vannath said Hun Sen was omnipresent during Sihanouk’s funeral, and so it comes as no surprise that he would play a bigger role in the cremation rites.
She said the action also exemplified the way that Hun Sen took the limelight off of Sihanouk and the royal family at the funeral and redirected it on his own image.
“Everything else was overshadowed by his presence,” she said.

Hun Sen referred to the inability of the previous four individuals trying to ignite the fire without success as a miracle emanating from the dead body of King Father Norodom Sihanouk.
Does he really believe in that? I doubt it for a person of Hun Sen's character. Is it possible that he might have tried to send a concealed message to everyone that only Hun Sen can take Sihanouk down and finally finished him off with fire.
How could a country with such a miraculous man, if we were to believe what Hun Sen said, go through so much turbulence and suffering in the 20th century and now, considering that such a man had been so much involved with Cambodian politics and be part of the country's leadership at one time and another? Couldn't the miracle he possessed help him outdo his opponents?
The suffering of the Cambodian people and the destruction of the country as a whole indicate to the contrary that Norodom Sihanouk is just as human as anybody else on this planet with the capability of possessing greed, love, hatred, revenge, incompetence, wrong judgement, error in political calculation, and selfishness which is a character belonging to all of us.
King Father is a Khmer who had done a lot of good things for Cambodia and her people, but his desire to maintain his monarchy at all cost had also made him choose political paths that put his interests above Cambodia and her people and thus he was also partly responsible for the destruction of the country and for Cambodia to be in her present condition.
King Father is a mercurial political leader with so much controversy left behind. The fact that he chose not to speak and be questioned by the ECCC and used his immunity granted by the government of PM Hun Sen to get away from his responsibility to the people of Cambodia leaves room for bad judgement on him. If you were clean, why would you be afraid of soap?

They would only made the fire started only when Hun Sen's turn to make Hun Sen looks some kind of miracle person.

I recall three decades ago, Phnom Penh, the Cambodia's capital, as I marched into the city, it was punctuated by the emptiness of buildings and houses and filled with broken roads and bridges, and now the city has morphed into a proud, beautiful and vibrant city.
