Relatives began gathering yesterday at the hospital bedside of former Khmer Rouge foreign minister Ieng Sary, whose condition has grown dire, his lawyers said yesterday.

“He is unconscious right now,” said defence counsel Ang Udom. “I don’t have any hope, and based on my observation, he has come to the last stage.”

Co-counsel Michael Karnavas said the 87-year-old crimes against humanity defendant had been receiving intensive medical care since Tuesday night.

“He’s in critical condition,” confirmed Karnavas.

On March 4, Ieng Sary was rushed to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital for gastro-intestinal problems.

Two foreign and one local medical expert are scheduled to carry out a health assessment on Sunday for Ieng Sary and co-accused Nuon Chea, 86, who has recently suffered from bronchitis and exhaustion and has been hospitalised multiple times this year.

Only Khieu Samphan, the youngest of the three, at 81, has avoided serious health scares since the case against the top living leaders began in 2011. A fourth defendant, Ieng Sary’s wife, Ieng Thirith, was in September deemed unfit to stand trial due to worsening dementia.

Following the medical examination, the court’s Trial Chamber will hold fitness hearings on March 25, said Khmer Rouge tribunal spokesman Neth Pheaktra.

ieng Sary will die the easy way out unlike the 2 millions Khmer victims whom were killed and starved by his regime. The rest of the KR leaders who are on trial will never get to face justice or be punished because of their crimes since they are old and dying. The KR court is just a waste of money. Ah hun sen will drag this KR court on and on until these former KR leaders all die out.

For die with this age is ok.

That's how the international community and Hun Sen's government to disappear without facing any consequences, that's why they keep dragging their feet about this trial.

I was trapped inside the Iron Cage for almost four years and it does not matter IENG SARY is found guilty or NOT but he has been behind bar since 2007 .
This Beast was born as brain damaged human

IENG SARY did not point his bloody fingers to other nation for killing Khmer people under his Pol Pot Regime.

Hell is waiting for him and SIHANOUK is getting an old company.

Thanks again to CPP and Ah Dr Hun Sen.
He've let the real criminals to die in peace...this is what Hun Sen Wants for his future too that's WHY KR trail will NOT bring forward any clarity and justice to the Cambodian Citizen in the country or outside while it done in Cambodia.

I need to TO to internation court soon else it pointless AND the decision should be after this election. I thin CNRP should annouce it policy on this NOW to help people of Cambodia understood their position in bring justice and reconciliation to the country that is long over-due.
