Thailand’s draft statement readied for ICJ hearings into Phra Viharn Preah Vihear dispute

BANGKOK, 26 March 2013 (NNT) – Thailand’s draft statement for the World Court hearings into the Phra Viharn Preah Vihear Temple dispute with Cambodia is now ready, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Tuesday that the government’s statement, which will be used at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearings on the interpretation of the judgment of 15 June 1962 in the case concerning the Temple of Phra Viharn, scheduled in April in the Netherlands, is now ready.

Mr. Surapong said the draft statement will be brought for discussion with related national security agencies before it is presented at the Cabinet in early April.

The Foreign Minister assured that all agencies and the legal team have been working closely to pursue and defend the case on Thailand’s behalf.

In any case, he maintained that there is no bad guy in this ICJ dispute as Thailand and Cambodia still wish to keep their cordial and friendly relations while helping push both countries’ economies forward.

Mr. Surapong stated that as Thai armed forces have been and will be doing their best to protect the country’s sovereignty, there should not be any worry about the outcome of the case and its impact on the border demarcation.

He went on to say that, if the ICJ ever decided to uphold the 1962 ruling, Thailand and Cambodia would have to hold more discussions on how the two neighbors would administer the border areas without allowing any clashes to break out in the future.

The Foreign Minister added that both nations earlier agreed to set up a joint working committee to promote economic cooperation along the border, with its meeting tentatively set for April.

Siem thugs are thieves and for them to be better than Khmer and they have to steal what to belong to Khmer! No Khmer should believe a single word from the Siem thugs' mouth because their action will speak louder than their words. So just observing their action is more than enough to judge them!
