BOAO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- China-Cambodia relations have become a model of friendly coexistence and close cooperation among countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at an international forum that opened on Sunday.

China and Cambodia are good neighbors, friends, partners and brothers, Xi said while meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2013 in Boao, a coastal town in south China's Hainan Province.

China has attached great importance to Cambodia as well as the countries' bilateral ties, said Xi, adding that China supports Cambodia's efforts in maintaining stability, developing independently and improving people's livelihoods.

China is ready to work with Cambodia to maintain high-level contact, enhance party-to-party exchanges and share governance experiences, said the president.

He said China will enhance support for Cambodia in infrastructure construction, such as irrigation and water conservancy facilities, roads and bridges.

China will also expand the scale of project assistance and concessional loans to Cambodia, he noted.

The two sides have decided to establish an intergovernmental coordinating committee to carry out the action plan on the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and push forward bilateral cooperation in all fields, said Xi.

Xi also said China will work with Cambodia to advance China's relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) along the right path.

He said China values its strategic partnership with the ASEAN and hopes to strengthen solidarity and mutual trust with ASEAN nations.

He called on the two sides to deepen regional cooperation, properly resolve relevant problems through dialogue and consultation and jointly promote regional stability and prosperity.

Hun Sen expressed thanks for China's long-term support for Cambodia.

He said Cambodia is committed to national stability and development and hopes to enhance its comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation with China.

"This is Cambodia's political choice," said Hun Sen, adding that Cambodia will continue to support China on issues concerning its core interests and major concerns.

Cambodia is willing to play a positive role in maintaining the healthy development of ASEAN-China relations, he added.

After the forum, Hun Sen will head to Beijing for an official visit on Monday.

Any country that can help Cambodia safeguard its independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and developments etc...

Any country or countries that violate Cambodia's sovereignty , independence and territorial integrity can't be considered by Cambodia as friend(s).

Does that answer your question poster 1:09 pm

Thank you for your answer.
Because we Khmer don't do a lot of survey, we really don't know how many of us prefer which one. We all should know that Cambodia always get caught between more powerful countries such as China and US, and even Thailand and Vietnam. If we should have a poll, I think people might choose China because they learn that Vietnam is always keep her policy of expanding territory to Cambodian land.

Cambodia is caught between a rock and a hard place. This predicament seems to never end for Cambodia. Our dilema seems to be always with many excuses. Find a nation where Cambodia wants to follow as a principle guideline. Adhere to what we have chosen and stick to the pursuit of happiness and individual rights. I personally do not believe that democracy is hard to accomplish if democracy we want. It is conflict of interests most of the time that seem to be the root of all bad omens in Cambodia. Corruption is also another main issue that set us back time after time. There are many ways to generate incomes for the country if development of infrastructures are to be the case of improvements. Everything requires money since that is the Capitalist way of doing business. In addition, Communism, Socialism and Capitalism most of these social structures cannot avoid corruptions and greeds. There are corruptions in China and Russia and they are a Communist nations. There are corruptions in United States and England and they are a Capitalist nations. So corruption has nothing to do with any regimes, but THE FUCKING PEOPLE who are running the country that are corrupted. Having said that, this is the reason prisons are being built to jail those who have violated the laws that have passed by them and to be only broken by these legislatures also.

Cambodia can be a great nation if that is the wish of one nation under God. I said this many times before, as long as China and Vietnam is not cooperated and continue to be foes rather than friends, then Cambodia will remain to be in this buffer zone between China and Vietnam. There is only one solution for Cambodia...head West and bring US Military Base and sign a 99 years Contractual Agreement between US and Cambodia once and for all. The same as it had been done to Hong Kong under the British government.

Dear 2:36
US ? I assume that what most Khmer wish.
That what I always wish and always dream of.
I never thought that US left us to be slaves of the Khmer Rouge.
In the middle of no where,in mid-70th, hungry and scared to death, forced to works in the rice field, we always dreamed that some day, American copters will be there to evacuate us from those enemies.
That never happened.
Americans to sign contracts for business in Cambodia?
Please make it happen !

I agree with the above two posts. If we look into the past, we will see the future, e.g. ever since we befriend with both China and Vietnam, we got trouble non-stop period. It is time to change the way we live our lives. We must follow Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia where they adopted the west way of life and look at their countries now. They prosper and have everything in life, social democracy is the best, it is more toward individuality self motivation. No one is being controlled by no one.

They all are being protected by the rule of law. Unlike in Vietnam and China, they abuse their power, they made sure their neighbouring countries are down below them, to enslave to them, they would use the word 'we are brothers' or 'we are best friends', they would lend them money in return with high percentages (from their printing machine-theif of all times). Then, the people of cambodia end up give them all of our hard earned products such as rice and dry fish etc.

Right now, it is time to say to these two nations to piss off, 'we are neither your brother nor your friends....we are our own, independent state and we will choose to be with whoever we want, if they can be trusted. As from now on, just leave us alone. From here, please move toward adopting a western style like NZ, Aust and the west way of life. Only then, we will be free.

Yes, again, it's the best choice, to head West. 100% agree.
But what I was trying to find out on Khmer's opinion, depending of Hun Sen's last move, that seems to go China.
I mean between the two evils (China and Vietnam), which one is the least worst.
