WOW an ethnic Khmer represents Vietnam at Miss Universe.. My question: would the few rabid foaming-at-the-mouth bloggers here accept a Cambodian-born ethnic Vietnamese to represent Cambodia at the same event? my guess is probably not..

I think whoever spells her name is wrong. It should be Truong Thi Mai, not Troung Thi May.
I have been told that Truong is a Chinese surname commonly used/spelled in Vietnam. In Kampuchea Krom, many Khmer Krom who have this surname are of Chinese or half-Chinese ancestry. However, many Khmer Krom, whether they are of Chinese or half-Chinese ancestry love Khmers so much and they always identified themselves as Khmers, not Vietnamese.
Here is the definition from Urban Dictionary:

A vietnamese last name or first name. pronounced 'joong' in viet. Pronounced Trong, troong, trung, and tru-ong elsewhere. Equivalent to Zhang, Chuong, and Cheung in Chinese. Often mispelled troung, trong, trung, etc.
Every good for her and good step to the right direction of communits VN to promote ethnicity value. Next step to have Khmer krom more freedom to retain their culture and Khmer linguistic.
Big step is to give back land you, VN stole to Cambodia. Then VN can be our good neighbor.
Don't be surprised because Yieknam has colonized Kampuchea krom for almost 70 years now.She al least still response as proud to be Khmer but represented Yieknam because of situation the land that she lived in in present day.Also Yieknam controlled Cambodia as well in present day under the reign ogre terror Hun sen.
