Letter sent to The Phnom Penh Post
Dear Editor,
I WISH to make some clarifications in response to the article published in The Phnom Penh Post on October 18 under the headline: “Obama set for first official visit, official says”, written by Mom Kunthear and Kristin Lynch.
The article totally misquoted me during the press briefing after the meeting between HE Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, and HE David Carden, the US ambassador to ASEAN, on October 17, this year.
In fact, I told reporters Mr Carden had told HE Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong that President Barack Obama would attend EAS during the ASEAN summits in Bali, Indonesia, next month.
Referring to Cambodia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2012, Mr Carden said the US would hold presidential elections in early November, 2012 too.
So if ASEAN summits and related summits occur after the US presidential elections, he hoped that the US president would be able to attend the related summits on the sidelines of the ASEAN summits in November, 2012 in Cambodia.
I wish to request you to kindly publish these clarifications in your newspaper in full.

តាមការពិត ខ្ញុំបានថ្លែងប្រាប់អ្នកយកព័ត៌មានថា លោក David Carden បានថ្លែងប្រាប់ឯកឧត្តមឧបនាយករដ្ឋមន្ត្រី ហោ ណាំហុង ថា លោកប្រធានាធិបតី Barack Obama នឹងចូលរួម EAS ក្នុងអំឡុងពេលនៃជំនួបកំពូលអាស៊ាននៅកោះបាលី ប្រទេសឥណ្ឌូនេស៊ីនាខែក្រោយ។ ដោយនិយាយសំដៅលើការធ្វើជាប្រធានអាស៊ាននៅឆ្នាំ ២០១២ របស់កម្ពុជា លោក David Carden បានថ្លែងថា សហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកនឹងរៀបចំធ្វើការបោះឆ្នោតប្រធានាធិបតីនៅដើមខែវិច្ឆិកា ឆ្នាំ ២០១២ ដែរ

លោកសង្ឃឹមថា លោកប្រធានាធិបតីអាមេរិកនឹងអាចចូលរួមកិច្ចប្រជុំពាក់ព័ន្ធក្រៅកិច្ចប្រជុំកំពូលអាស៊ាននៅខែវិច្ឆិកា ឆ្នាំ ២០១២ នៅប្រទេសកម្ពុជា។
