“Up to now, one can say that the opposition did nothing for the country. No construction is the result of its work,” Hun Sen launched on Thursday 29 May. Furthermore, according to Hun Sen, the opposition parties wouldn’t have done anything to help the country’s development. They were acting against the public interest “by demanding that the International community cuts all aids to Cambodia,” Hun Sen added.
Kong Korm, deputy president of the opposition Sam Rainsy party, retorted by saying that if his party acted less at the national level, it was because it did not hold power, and therefore, its maneuvering margin is more limited. He added that, on the other hand, the SRP was very active at the local level. Furthermore, “we are steering the government into the right direction, and to reinforce democracy in Cambodia,” Kong Korm said. Kong Korm also claimed that if Sam Rainsy were to be elected as Prime Minister in the upcoming election, he would do much better than the CPP for the development of the country.
