After the news media reported that the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered overseas Cambodian embassy officials not to issue visa for Prof. Yash Ghai, the UN Special Envoy on Human Rights in Cambodia, unless there is an advance approval from the ministry first, on Sunday, Khieu Kanharith, spokesman for the government, rejected this information. He said that the Cambodian government did not ban the issuing of visa for Prof. Yash Ghai. Khieu Kanharith told The Cambodia Daily that the government never issued such a ban order. He said that this was a fake statement, or it was issued by someone who does not understand foreign affairs. He said that Cambodia would not take such action and that Prof. Yash Ghai can come or not come to Cambodia. Prof. Yash Ghai plans to provide his human rights report on Cambodia on 19 March, at the UN Human Rights Council meeting which will take place in Switzerland between 03 and 28 March 2008.
