One Cambodian man was killed and four others injured on Sunday afternoon after they were shot by Thai soldiers after illegally crossing the border from Oddar Meanchey province into Thailand’s Sisaket province. Trapaing Prasat district police chief Keo Tan said that Thai soldiers fired on a group of five Cambodians from Kampong Thom province’s Baray district after they were allegedly found logging rosewood two kilometres inside Thai territory. He identified the deceased man as 43-year-old Si Boeun. “Khmer authorities have contacted the Thai side to ask for the Cambodian body to be taken back [to Cambodia],” the police chief said. He added that the four other victims who were shot are already back in Cambodia, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries at the Oddar Meanchey provincial hospital.

Two Cambodians, a mother and daughter, have been killed when Thai soldiers indiscriminately shot at a group of 20 Cambodians who tried to cross the border to find work in Thailand on Thursday 30th September.

The two killed, 59 year-old Mourn Saroeuth and and 15 year-old Soeun Chatra, from O'Dombang village in Battambang province, were crossing the border at Robieng Checkpoint in a pick up truck heading to Aranyaprathet. About 10 kilometres into Thai territory, a group of Thai soldiers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off, triggering the Thai soldiers to shoot at the vehicle, killing the mother and daughter. Six of the travellers escaped back into Cambodia by foot, 2 arrested by Thai soldiers while others have escaped into Thai territory without any news.

The bodies of the two dead had been kept at a hospital morgue in Aranyaprathet. Thai authority told Cambodian authority that the mother and daughter died of drowning, but a Thai newspaper reported said that they died of gunshot wounds because their bodies were covered with blood and riddled with bullets.

In the last two years, more than 30 Cambodians workers and loggers have been brutally killed by Thai border troops while they seek works in Thailand.

Two Cambodian civilians were ambushed and killed by Thai border police from Sa Kaeo province. The two men died on the spot in a puddle of blood and they were accused by the Thai cops of illegally transporting drugs and firearms into Thailand. However, when the Cambodian authority asked for clarification in the case and proof to the effect, the Thai cops have yet to provide a reply. Mey Samorn, a Cambodian police major from Malay district, Banteay Meanchey province, indicated on 13 November that the shooting by the Thai cops took place at 3:10PM on 12 November 2008, near Say Diev village, Klong Hat commune and district, Sa Kaeo province, which is facing Cambodia’s Sampov Loun district, Battambang province. The two victims are Yan Vy, a 24-year-old male, and Soeuy Sot, a 39-year-old man. Both lived at Veal Hat village, Malay commune, Banteay Meanchey province. Cambodian police and border liaison officials visited the bodies of the two victims, and they could be repatriated back to Cambodia in the afternoon of 13 November through the Klong Leuk-Poipet border gate.
